Coppell Trainer of the Month – May 2017 – Lotta Meyer

Lotta Meyer is a trainer with GYIS, a RN and a figure skating coach. She moved to the US from Sweden 7 years ago.

Q: What was the biggest challenge/problem you were facing before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
My biggest challenge was to change up my workouts and not just keep doing the same thing.

Q: Why did you end up deciding to join the Get You In Shape program?
We had just moved here and I needed to find a new place to work out and new friends and it looked like a fun group.

Q: Walk us through your journey. What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
The past couple of years prior to joining I had had some health problems and gained a lot of weight. I had chronic pain and sometimes it would take me forever to just stand up and get out of the car. Over a period of two years after joining I lost a total of 50 pounds and my pain became much more tolerable and no longer limits me in my daily life. And even after gaining some of the weight back I still feel strong and healthy.

Q: Why did you decide to give your time and become part of the Get You In Shape Team?
I had year of experience coaching figure skaters on and off ice and since I really enjoyed the boot camp and had personal experience with the effectiveness of the  nutritional program I wanted to share it with others. When I was asked if I was interested in joining the team I had recently put my 25 year nursing career in the field of ICU and Electrophysiology on hold to stay home and focus on my health and family. I was flattered and very happy to say yes to working with what I love to do. And it’s a perfect job to combine with my skating coaching.

Q: What strengths/special gifts do you feel help you as a trainer with Get You In Shape?
I have both the experience of being an athlete on a competitive level as well as being a regular person with weight and health struggles so I can relate to the clients and know what they are going through. At the same time I know that you get out of the program what you put in to it so I like to push the clients to their next level and not settle.

Q: What are some of the benefits that you have received by being a trainer on the Get You In Shape Team?
The feeling of community, it’s like having a family around even though my family is 5000 miles away.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking to join this program?
I can’t think of a single reason not to, no matter if you are already in good shape or a beginner at this “exercising thing”.
