Chad Holmes is a regulatory compliance consultant for employer sponsored retirement plans, and has lived in Coppell for 15 years.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
I was generally sedentary and suffered from a general lack of energy. Poor nutrition just made this worse.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
A couple of months after I turned 40 this year, I realized that, for the first time in my adult life, I felt older than my age. I just got tired of what I saw in the mirror and my overall lack of forward movement towards my life goals. I knew I could successfully diet on my own, but I also knew that I could not successfully start and maintain an exercise regime on my own.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
I’m a very solitary individual by nature and, as such, I was nervous about a group workout at the beginning. However, everyone, including the trainers, make it easy to fit in and to find your path to build momentum. The hardest part, for me, was just getting out of the car on the morning of my first workout. After I made that initial commitment to myself and pushed through all of my normal excuses to not put in the work, I fell into a routine. Routine is key, and GYIS really helps you establish one.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
The main tool that’s helped me is an intangible: Accountability. Something I’ve never had when trying to make lifestyle changes on my own. Tangible tools would be the nutritional program and information, maintaining a food diary, the daily check-in during the first month and the trainers themselves.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
GYIS is a good balance between intensity and being “self-paced”. You are encouraged to push yourself to make the most of every workout, but the workouts aren’t designed to “kick your butt”. Good, full body workouts that help you make real progress without soreness and fatigue lingering for days after the workout.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I have lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks. 13 of those at the end of the first 4 weeks. I have much, much more energy throughout the day. I sleep better. I have a healthier relationship with food, and even have a lower grocery bill by focusing on the staples of a healthy diet.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
Just give it a try. I think most would be surprised at how quickly you’ll notice results. Plus, and I’ve never said this about exercise, it’s just fun.
