JoAnn Talkington is a housewife and lives in Coppell, TX. She became part of the GYIS family in April 2016.
Q: Where were you at in your life before the Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I was very lethargic and tired. I was overweight and didn’t like having my photos taken.
Q: Why did you decide to join Get You In Shape?
I needed the accountability of going to a class versus going to the gym on my own.
Q: What was your first experience with or first impression of Get You In Shape?
Get You In Shape was exhausting, I was tired after my workouts. Made me realize that I was working out mildly when I did work out because I didn’t feel whipped like that. Although I was working out with modifications, I made a commitment to change and the workouts were challenging. The trainers and other campers were very encouraging and helped me along the way. The class as a whole motivated me to keep going to class and give it my best.
Q: What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
I was fortunate that the timing of my joining coincided with an Advocare 24 day challenge. With the Advocare, MyFitnessPal and Lotta checking up on what I posted into MyFitnessPal, the workouts and a 10,000 steps a day commitment… I saw results.
Q: What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
I like the people. The GYIS team and boot campers are my favorite part of the program. They are friendly, motivating, compassionate, encouraging, good examples.
Q: How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I have a lot more energy today than 6 months ago. Instead of watching my son and grandson at the Trampoline park, I jump with them.
Q: What is your proudest moment or result from the Get You in Shape program?
My proudest moment was completing my first 5K with my son. I had never run a 5K before, not in my 20s, 30s or 40s. So doing your first 5K when you’re 53 is an eye opener. I had only been exercising a couple of weeks and the Cardio Momma’s inspired me to get moving on my off days. (Thanks Tara) Running to a goal… I am still working on becoming a faster, longer distance runner, but completing my first 5K was thrilling.
Q: How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
More energy allows me to try other things. Enjoy my family time better. Enjoy my vacation times better. Enjoy my wardrobe better. Be in pictures and just feel good about how I look.
Q: What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Since joining GYIS, I try to eat healthier, move every day, never miss my boot camp unless I’m out of town and in 6 months, I’ve lost 35 lbs. and dropped 3 pant sizes.
Benefits: New friends, more friends, walking friends, running friends, hiking friends, class friends. It’s great when I get to do other things with my GYIS friends … I love having them. The friendships are a great part of this journey.
