Oh the weather outside is…magnificent! If you’re a Texan like us then you know the spring days are few and far between. We like to take advantage of as many outdoor days as we can take them. It’s a great season to sit on your patio and enjoy the morning sun, request to sit outdoors for your lunch dates, and of course bask in the outdoor scenery during your workouts. Yet, for all the months stuck indoors perhaps we’ve experienced a momentary lapse on some of the best trails to enjoy our workouts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Not to worry! With Get You In Shape and some help from AllTrails.com, we’ve narrowed down a list of some of our favorite scenic routes in this bustling metroplex. So strap on your favorite running shoes and pick from one of your favorites below and get in shape today!

White Rock Lake Trail

With some of the best customer reviews going to this trail, it’s no wonder that we talk about it first in our list. White Rock Lake Trail is a fantastic 9.3 mile loop centering around, you guessed it – White Rock Lake. Don’t be surprised to see many outdoor enthusiasts also enjoying the lake views whether working out, playing with their family, or taking advantage of the dog park also located on the trail. The biggest benefit of this trail is that it is open year-round for your enjoyment. You’ll enjoy smoothly paved pathways weaving through the surrounding local flora, fauna, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Trinity Levee Trail

Just recently established as part of the Trinity Revitalization Project, the Trinity Levee Trail has been completed for a few years now and offers a 13.9 mile loop-route surrounding the Trinity Lake area. The trail is primarily used for walking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. An added plus is that most of the trail is not overcrowded with other pedestrians throughout the week. Reviews tout this trail as a great escape from the busy city life, great sunsets to view, and a select few post-workout eateries to check out on your visit.

Eagle Mountain Lake Park Trail

In our search for some of the best trails in the Fort Worth area we came across the gorgeous Eagle Mountain Lake Park. This extensive 5 mile trail boasts impressive views of Eagle Mountain Lake and added amenities to not only workout but slow down the pace of life and enjoy nature’s beauty. The park is open from dawn to 30 minutes until sunset and proudly offers the serene atmosphere away from the busy life. We list this trail as a great weekend getaway. A map of Eagle Mountain’s numerous trails can be found here – Eagle Mountain Trail Map.

Campion Trail

With Get You In Shape based out of Coppell, Texas, we wanted a great trail on this list that is a little closer to home. Campion Trail in Irving is a substantial 13-mile trail with plans for the city to expand this project to 22 miles. Currently, there are two segments of Campion Trail open to the public. There are 8.5 miles available in the Elm Fork (north) section that connects with the active Las Colinas community. The  6.5 miles West Fork (south) section touches upon the city-life and natural preserve of the Irving area and connects to Grand Prairie’s Lone Star Trail. Campion Trail is also in partnership with the greater DFW area to provide a 64-mile long metroplex trail for its residents.

Katy Trail

We saved the best for last! You’ve probably not only heard of this trail but experienced it on your bucket list. Which is to say, if it isn’t on your bucket list – go ahead and jot it down now. Katy Trail is the shining pride and glory of outdoor enthusiasts in the DFW area. This 3.5-4 mile trail (depending on your route) not only provides safe and family-friendly amenities throughout it’s trail, but great eateries to experience that full Dallas lifestyle. The pathway runs between Dallas’ West End and the AA Center arena, traversing the city’s urban core past Knox Street, Southern Methodist University, and the Mockingbird DART Station. The trail serves as a 26 acre linear park providing recreational and alternative commuting opportunities in one of the densest areas of the City.
