The Power of Fasting
Fasting is one of the simplest yet most powerful tools for weight loss, metabolic health, and overall well-being. Science and scripture both support fasting as a way to reset and renew the body. The benefits include:
Weight loss & fat loss
Increased growth hormone levels (essential for muscle maintenance and fat burning)
Boosted metabolism & energy
Improved cognitive function & brain health
Better sleep & recovery
Reduced inflammation & pain relief
Lower risk of metabolic diseases, Alzheimer’s, and cardiovascular issues
Activated stem cells for regeneration
All of these benefits come from one simple practice: not eating for specific periods. Let’s break it down.
Types of Fasting
There are many fasting methods, but here’s what I personally follow and recommend:
16:8 Intermittent Fasting – Fast for 16 hours, eat within an 8-hour window.
24-Hour Fasts – Eat dinner at 7 PM, then don’t eat again until 7 PM the next day.
Extended Fasting (24-48 hours or longer) – This allows deep autophagy (cell renewal) to occur, providing even greater health benefits.
If you’re new to fasting, start with intermittent fasting and gradually work your way up. It’s a game-changer!
What to Eat: Treating Your Body Like a Temple
Fasting is powerful, but what you eat when you break your fast is just as important. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), so we need to fuel them properly.
Balanced Nutrition for Men Over 40
A well-balanced diet consists of:
Protein – Essential for muscle growth and recovery. (Think lean meats, eggs, fish, and plant-based sources.)
Healthy Carbs – Provides energy. (Think vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.)
Healthy Fats – Supports brain health and hormone production. (Think avocados, nuts, and olive oil.)
Portion Guidelines
Protein: Size of your palm
Vegetables: Size of your fist
Carbs: A handful (cupped palm)
Fats: Size of your thumb
What to Avoid
To truly transform, you need to eliminate foods that do not serve your body, such as:
Processed sugars
Junk food
Excess alcohol
Unhealthy oils
The goal is to nourish, not punish your body. Eating whole, nutrient-dense foods will help you perform at your best.
