The Get You In Shape team hand selects clients each month that we feel have transformed their health and fitness. This Get You In Shape Spotlight Rookie for September joined Get You In Shape in May 2015. Cate Gussio lives in Lewisville, TX and works for Sprint.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
A fitness class that I was taking was ending and I wanted a replacement. I attended one of the community 5K’s and was impressed with the community involvement that GYIS promotes.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?Cate Gussio Before After
I was fairly new in my journey to reclaim my health. My energy was really low and I didn’t have a lot of confidence in anything “fitness” related. I definitely felt a little lost about the best way for me to increase my fitness activities.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
From the first time I spoke with someone on the phone I was impressed with how friendly and outgoing the people in this program are. That has carried forward into every single session I have attended. I was pretty intimated by the idea of doing a boot camp, but it is amazing how much encouragement and support is provided. I never knew I could laugh so much while working so hard.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
My Fitness Pal, Trend Weight and Map My Walk are my three favorite tools.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
The people here really care about each other and it’s obvious from the moment you walk up and hear the first friendly hello until the time you leave. In just under 4 months the people here have become an extended family.
I have a bad knee and hip and the trainers are great at helping me with accommodations without making me feel like a wimp. Their focus is on you being the best you that you can be and not living up to some unrealistic ideal.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I lost 7 lbs in my first month with GYIS, 5 lbs in my second month and since joining GYIS almost 4 months ago I have lost 22 lbs. Even better, I am able to walk longer and faster and have so much more energy. My confidence with fitness related activities has soared and I completed a half-marathon and am now training for a full marathon.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program
Do it. I can’t imagine anyone regretting the decision to give this program a try.
