Julie Madden has lived in Coppell for 24 years. She does a lot of volunteering- Coppell Lions Club and at First United Methodist Church.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Not eating healthy, was walking every morning, but that was not enough of a workout. Not sleeping well either.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I came to a class last year with a friend, Lisa Dunham, and thought it was way too hard, but I needed to do something to get in shape-to feel better, look better. GYIS had a 21 day special program, so I thought I’d try that.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
The workouts were super hard, but the trainers were so encouraging. I went at my own pace, improving a little each week. (Still hate burpees!)

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Working out 5 mornings a week. Plus using the recommended nutritional supplement products have really helped with energy level. I have followed the Cookbook and Meal Plan we were given for the last 3 weeks. The food is wonderful, fresh veggies and fruits. Having trainers to answer questions and help with finding the correct supplements for me.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
I really love that the workouts are outside even if it’s hard work. Also being introduced to using the fitness pal app has been a unique way for me to keep up with what I’m eating and getting enough water. The group workouts are fun (I can’t believe I just said that). There are so many class time choices available, so there’s never a day you can’t get an awesome workout in.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
My first week was tough, didn’t feel like I had any energy and I had really sore muscles. Second week got a little better, I was actually running!!!! The third week I started with the suggested meal replacement shakes, Spark and supplements, and I’ve really seen a difference. After my 21 day program, I had lost 8 lbs.!!!!! Wow! Plus I am sleeping so much better!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
Everyone says “if I can do it, you can too,”, but it’s amazing to me that I am committed to this work out and I would encourage anyone/everyone to give it a try. I’ve even offered to pick up people and bring them to the workout with me. I feel empowered, and confident that my goals will be met.
