Susie Bowie is a realtor, wife and mother to 2 busy teenage boys! She has been a Coppell resident for 21 years.
Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
I’d work out sporadically. I would not stick with any workout. I would eat terribly – think of a teenage boy’s diet! Athletic boys! Not good for an almost 50 year old gal!
Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I have several friends that have participated in GYIS and love it! My friend Julie asked if I would join with her – her daughter is getting married and she wants to fit into a smaller dress size! It turned out to be the motivation I needed as somehow, I have gained 10 pounds in 2017. Not Good! I have a closest full of clothes that do not fit!
Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
Everyone was friendly and encouraging. It’s a bit misleading as I think of “Boot Camp” as a military drill Sargent telling me I am not good enough! Brad & his team in NO way resemble that! Think – Encourage & Motivate!
Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
I need the My Fitness Pal! It really keeps you accountable! I love the Advocare Spark! I was drinking way too much caffeine. In fact, it’s safe to say I was a caffeine addict! While I haven’t cut caffeine out completely it’s definitely way down from what it was!
Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
I like group exercise. The biggest difference for me, when you go to a class in a studio – they tell you everyone can go at their own pace, when in reality you can’t. There are mirrors everywhere and you stand out if you are going at a different pace. It made me feel uncoordinated and weak. Unfortunately, I have some lower back problems (degenerative disc disease). This causes me different levels of pain at different times. If I’m having a flare up I need to go slower than the person next to me. At GYIS there are no mirrors, you are not watching the person next to you. There is a beautiful sunrise as the back drop. At heart, I am an outdoor girl so I love not being locked in a stuffy gym! Also, the trainers are glad to come over and give me an alternate exercise if needed. Have I mentioned encouraging? This the first program I have stuck to in 20 years!
Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I have lost 3 pounds, and while I still have a way to go, I feel stronger and more confident. I have met new people along the way and that keeps it fun.
