Coppell Trainer 10 Lessons Learned in 10 Years Part 6

October of 2017 will mark Get You In Shape’s 10th Year Anniversary of starting the Get You In Shape fitness program in Coppell.Although Get You In Shape was “born” in 2006  (see previous blog post here), we are celebrating 10 Years of the Coppell Fitness program.I often get asked each year when we celebrate..“What are lessons learned from 10 years of being in business?”I enjoy reading answers like this myself so I thought this may beneift others. So I have added 10 Lessons I’ve  learned In 10 Years to hopefully will give you insight, nuggets and wisdom.Today is Lesson #6. If you are wanting to read the previous Lessons, just scroll down to the bottom of this blog for the links.

Lesson #6   Keep It SimpleWe have built our business on two services. 1) Get You In Shape Coppell Group Personal Training (fitness boot camp) 2) Group Nutrition Coaching Challenges. Although, we have expanded and added services like corporate fitness, we have stuck with two main services because we KNOW THEY WORK and because it’s WHAT WE ARE GOOD AT. It also has allowed us to focus on what we are passionate about which has made all the hard work FUN. Keeping it simple with two services has also allowed us to make some easy “Follow the Darn Instructions” and allowed us to include personal accountability into everything we do. As a business, it’s so easy to get side tracked with other “shinny objects” to take time, talents and effort away from what works. Keeping it simple and offering two main services (a step by step system and support/accountability) have been a key to helping our clients get started and also a key to why we’ve had many of our clients stay with us over the years.

We have kept the focus doing the simple things and offering what produces results for clients.  This has allowed us to offer what we feel is the best option for someone getting started. It’s also allowed us to keep it simple and focus on continuing do what we are good at. When you do what your good at, you help more people and the journey is much more rewarding. I learned from an early age to focus on the things you are good at and just do more of it. One thing that I believe sets us apart from others is COMMUNITY. I feel one simple thing I am good as it making people feel comfortable and a part of our community. Realizing this, when I added Core Values to the company, I chose to instill this as our #1 core value. Not only because I was good at creating it but realizing that our clients are looking for positive and healthy environment where they will get encouragement, motivation, inspiration and accountability. So I doubled down and made this our priority keeping it simple. Just provide a friendly and positive environment. Make them feel welcomed.  When it comes to working out, I realized that people would continue to come back if I made the workouts fun. I added in some simple yet effective ways to make the workouts constantly varied changing the exercises and changing the fitness equipment so that clients would always be wondering what we are going to do next. The other thing I did that was “different” but what we hear is focus on explaining each exercise as if teaching it for the first time. Every single fitness session. This has helped our clients focus on each repetition not only to get the most out of each repetition (burning more calories) but also helping to decrease injury because we continue to focus on form throughout each repetition for the entire workout. Constantly varying the workouts also means that we use a lot of different workout modalities or fitness equipment. We love the fact that we are not just going to be getting on the tread mill every single day but doing a bunch of different cardiovascular exercises that helps achieve the same goal while helping to give our clients more variety in a coaching environment. Early on, I got good a sharing success stories of our clients with our Spotlight of the Month and Rookie of the Month clients. Our 3rd Core Value is Empower. We want to EMPOWER our clients by helping motivate each client to live a healthy lifestyle so they can pay it forward.Since we got such great feedback about how they loved hearing the Spotlight that we just kept doing it. After 10 years, we have over 500 Video Testimonies on our YouTube Success Story Channel. We also kept it simple with Group Personal Training (fitness boot camp). I understood the impact of group support and group accountability. Private personal training is great and can be effective but since I was having results with our group training, I did not want to add another service from what our main service was. I think if you focus on keeping everything you do simple and focus on the few things you excel in, life would be much less complex. I hope you enjoyed lesson #6 . If you did, feel free to share it below.
