Linda Hampton is the Director of Events for Retirement Planners of America and has lived in Coppell for over 28 years.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
I had a membership to the Y for the last 20 years and had fallen into an exercise rut. I didn’t feel like the Y was for me anymore and rarely went. Walking and biking were really all I was doing and I felt I needed more strength training.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I belonged to a mindset/motivation group that challenged me to change my perspective that I can do hard things!

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
I was nervous to get started that it would be a camp gladiator type boot camp and that I would hurt myself. Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging offering lots of modifications that made me feel at ease. I kept repeating “do what I can at my own fitness level”. “Keep my eyes on my own mat” and not compare myself to others.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Do what I can at my own fitness level. Bought a rolling backpack! Invited friends that have joined to keep me accountable. Loved the Biggest Winner Contest (our team, Determined Divas, won).

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
What a great community Brad and Cindy have built. I have gotten to meet such wonderful people that are positive and encouraging. You never feel alone in the journey. I also love working out outside (love looking up at the stars at 5:30 am doing crunches). I never thought I would like working out in 40* winter weather and it was great. You don’t need a gym (a building) to stay fit. You can work out anywhere with any kind of equipment you have. Just show up.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I feel much stronger, more flexible, stand taller and have more confidence about what I can do. I’m down about 15 pounds, slow but steady loss which is what I wanted. I am committed to lose another 15 over the next 6 months. Our 4 grandsons are moving closer to be near us and I am ready to keep up with those little rascals.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
If you’re looking for a program then you know you’re not satisfied with where you are at. Why stay stuck? Great community of people and a variety of fun and challenging workouts. Andy Brown park is a beautiful gym!
