Reymund Zuniga is a retired and lives just north of Coppell.
What was your life like before Get You In Shape?
In the summer of ‘19 we sold our Coppell house and our cars and moved our stuff into storage and started travelling Europe and Mexico. In March ’20 we were in Spain when Covid really started to spike so we had to fly back to the States. We quarantined for several months in the Hill Country and decided to move back to the area in the summer of ’20. While we did walk a ton while travelling, we weren’t eating healthy and we weren’t doing any strength training so we joined in January ’21.
Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
All indications were that Covid was most risky for the unhealthy. We had retired and since we couldn’t travel we really wanted something to keep us busy. Joining GYIS seemed like the perfect way to address both of these concerns. We had used a trainer at our gym before and we knew that was not for us and we loved the idea of working out outside.
What was your first impression of Get You In Shape?
At first it seemed like we were drinking out of a firehose trying to understand the nutrition, exercise program, the goal setting and planning tools… While the classes were tough everyone was so nice and encouraging, we knew we had made a great decision.
What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefitted you?
The in-person classes by far, but other than that, mainly the planning tools and recipes.
How is Get You In Shape different from other programs you have tried before?
The biggest difference is how the trainers typically give you 3 levels of difficulty for each exercise. No one judges and it allows you to ease into the routine and minimize injury. I also love how many different classes there are in every Monday/Wednesday/Friday and some Saturdays. It makes it really easy to find a class that fits into our schedule. Finally, I feel like the attention to properly stretching, before and after the workout, minimizes soreness and injury!
What results and benefits have you experienced with Get You In Shape?
I lost 15 lbs in my first month and 30 by month 4. I added 7 lbs over the next 5 months but since my waist and neck measurements didn’t change, and I’m holding steady at that weight, I feel like it’s a good 7 lbs. The biggest benefit is my overall health. My doctor had dropped two of my prescriptions and cut the dose of a 3rd one in half. In addition, he said my lab work looks so good he’s ok with me just coming in every 6 months now instead of 3 (I’m diabetic and had been getting my blood checked every 3 months for over two years)!
What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
It’s a program for anyone that is serious about improving their overall health by just following the darn instructions. All the tools are there and you choose how dedicated you want to be and how hard you want to push yourself. Brad and the instructors are always there for advice and moral support so it really feels like a team effort.
