Margaret McKenzie works in the healthcare industry and lives in Lewisville.
What was your life like before Get You In Shape?
I have always tried to maintain an active lifestyle – walking, going to the gym at least 3 times weekly. I was mindful of foods that I ate that I knew would add additional pounds – avoided fast food restaurants but I have a sweet tooth. I enjoy baking without making substitutions and would substitute a meal for dessert and tea. Hence, fluctuations in my weight.
Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I saw the FB/Instagram post about 3 times in a short space of time. Not happy with my clothes not fitting right and having so many pieces that no longer fit(some new). I wondered about this group/the ad and whether this was exactly what was being promoted. I spoke to my son who is a Jit-jitsu trainer about the post. He said, “Mom give it a try…” I expressed an interest and Brad called. He sounded like an honest guy, not pushy and so I made an appointment. I started right away.
What was your first impression of Get You In Shape?
I liked the structure but had a hard time keeping up – I just did not have the stamina, but the ladies near me kept saying, “work at your pace, it will get better.” I still get fatigued at the 15 seconds to go mark sometimes, but I am much improved. Since I have been in the program, I have lost weight and am feeling stronger. I have also not had to purchase any new clothes, which is one of my goals.
What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefitted you?
Having an early morning class works very well for me . The virtual sessions keep me engaged. I limit baked goods and ice cream. My drink of choice is water with lemon.
What results and benefits have you experienced with Get You In Shape?
I have lost 18 pounds, have dropped one pant size and close to losing a second. I have an increase in energy. I was able to babysit my 17 month old grandson ALONE for 6 days. I can lace my boots/sneakers with much less effort (no husband help needed)!
What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
Do It!!! You will be in a supportive environment.
