Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?Prior to GYIS, I was active and did something whether it was going t the gym and working out, treadmill or walking at the park. I have always done something. But the past couple of years due to health / orthopedic challenges I’ve found I haven’t pushed myself; just going through the motions. I’ve always had to watch my weight so there was a lot of focus on food and what I could or couldn’t eat and that was frustrating and discouraging to me.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?I was tired and frustrated of “doing something” but not getting anywhere. I have tried GYIS at different times but never committed to jointing and I have been on the GYIS mailing list and the face book page but always on the periphery. I think after my annual physical I decided I MUST do something different. It was before Christmas and GYIS had a special, so I signed up and so did my husband.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?I loved it from the start! I love that I don’t have to think about what I am going to do. I love the variety of the workouts and don’t dread each time I come. Someone else plans the workout and I just have to show up and do what I am told. I am a competitive person and working out with others pushes me to be better and do more. When I want to quit I can’t because others are not quitting; pushing me to do better and be better.It is a positive encouraging atmosphere not just from the trainers but the other GYIS participants. I love that GYIS wants to make a difference in my life; they want me to be successful and will support me in the process.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?I have been using MyFitnessPal and documenting what I consume. This has really been eye opening. First, committing to noting everything I eat has been a great exercise. I’ve tried in the past but unsuccessfully; just didn’t have the time or energy.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?I have participated in classes at the gym but with GYIS there is a family atmosphere that differs from the gym. The trainers really care about you and how you are doing. Although it is a group workout, I feel I get personal attention and guidance during my time there. I do enjoy the outdoor workouts and working out with others. GYIS adapts the workouts to the participants, environment and weather!

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?I started the program December 1 with my goal to not gain weight over the holidays; I did not gain and in fact lost weight and since then have lost 14 pounds (my scale) and 16 inches. I have more energy and feel stronger with many of the exercises we are doing.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?Just do it! It is a fun, positive environment. Anyone at any age, and at any fitness level can participate and benefit from the guidance and support that GYIS leaders provide.
