Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?I was feeling awful. I wasn’t moving much. I would start using age as a reason for not keeping up with others when walking or climbing stairs. I have a 17-year-old daughter, and I volunteered a lot to be a chaperone for some of her band trips, and I found myself just lumbering along with my aches and pains. My father passed after a long illness in the Spring, my grandson had passed from cancer the year before, and I had just given up any time that would be for myself. When I gave that up, my mood and thought process just went to “well, this is just the way it is going to be. I need to care for my family. I’m getting old anyway…so I am not missing much.”

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?I saw many Facebook posts on Get you in Shape and really looked at the people my age who were having fun exercising. They seemed happy, and it looked like the classes were designed so you could go at your own level. That was important because I have bad knees and an arthritic back, which was also causing me not to move much too. I didn’t want to be embarrassed by not being able to keep up.I finally decided to join the 28-day challenge. I will be honest, I didn’t have high hopes, but I didn’t have much invested at this point. But after the very first class, I felt better. I went home, and my mood was excellent, and I had so much energy. I went to bed and fell asleep for the first time in a long time without some medication. That was amazing. And you know what, the next day, I could walk better. How did that happen?

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program? The classes are outdoors, and that adds to the ambiance. –and most importantly, everyone is so friendly and are also feeling the same aches and pains but are getting after it and look great. The trainers have worked with me to find exercises at different levels when I need it (mostly lunges and burpees), and it has been delightful.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?I use the MyFitness Pal to keep track of my food consumption, and I use the tips that Brad gives us almost every day on how to perform and modify exercises. The trainers are golden as they are always available to help with questions.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? It is different because it is designed and tailored for you and your needs. There aren’t maniac millennial’s who have no idea what it is like to be at my stage of life. I have had trainers who just give you an exercise and then look at their phone while you do it.There is true accountability—not painful accountability, but people who ask how you are doing, work to make the program fit you and your needs.Other gyms and trainers just don’t do that—not much caring involved.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program? Most importantly, my mood has changed, I feel upbeat–and I can focus more at work. I walk with a bit of a spry in my step now–because now I can keep up with everyone walking and climbing stairs. The proof in that was when I went to visit Texas State University in San Marcos on a college tour with my daughter. That University is all hills and steps. All-day, we went up steps and down steps and up hills and downhills. But I kept up!! My daughter was so impressed. She called me a beast! LOL!At this point I have been in the program about 3 months and have lost 10 pounds.People look at me and ask me “what has changed about you, is it your hair?” LOL! I know I am exuding more energy and confidence.I tell them it isn’t my hair—it is Get Yourself in Shape!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program? If you are experience aches and pains, feeling old, and don’t think there is a program for you, you are wrong. If you have joined gym after gym and haven’t been going, you need to try Get yourself in Shape as it is different than any other exercise program. The trainers are amazing, and they really care. There is a huge sense of community when you join. Everyone is supportive because they have all experienced what you are going through and appreciate that you are there with them. They offer opportunities to workout that fit anyone’s schedule. They modify exercises that fit YOU. They check up on you. They care.Give Get Yourself in Shape a try as you can’t go wrong and they offer many opportunities to try and see if you like it!
