Jim Pierson is a Purchasing Manager with Bulloch Fabricating in Lewisville. He has lived in Lewisville for the past 10 years.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
After back surgery in 2016 I had pretty much turned into a couch potato. Just did a little gardening work on some weekends. Walking the dog was pretty much the extent of any consistent exercise. I had developed bad eating habits. Eating out to often and making bad choices when I did.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
My wife saw an ad on Facebook, liked the premise and wanted to try it out and asked me if I would go with her. I weighed the most I had ever weighed in my life and decided it was way past time to get moving again. So I agreed to give it a try.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
The variety of exercises that we do. Each session is different so that you don’t get stuck doing the same routine time after time. Also, the friendly atmosphere of all the instructors and other clients. I felt welcome the first day I was there. I really like the work to your own level approach too. As a beginner you are not pushed by a trainer to the point that the day after you are so sore you can hardly walk.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Meal/food logging for sure. Tracking daily calories along with my wife and comparing them, encouraging each other. Encouraging results stories posted on Facebook or in the monthly newsletter from people I have actually met and see regularly at the sessions.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
Again, it is the variety of the things we do each day and how we go about doing the routines. Additionally, the fact that most days we are outside is a unique and enjoyable difference that I have not done in the past, beyond running on my own. Best of all is doing this with nice people, some of which are close to my same age and going through some the same aged body aches and pains as me.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I have lost over 20 pounds in my first 9 weeks or so. I have greatly improved my eating habits, cooking most all our meals at home. My sleep has improved so much I cannot believe it. I now sleep 7 straight hours most every night. Before I mostly just cat napped and was awake during the night for hours at a time or up for the day 2-3 AM. Then I would be crashing at my desk in the early afternoon. I feel so much more rested now and easily make it through the afternoon. I have improved my health already. I just had my yearly physical and my blood panel results are improved in almost every category from last year.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
If you are looking to make some healthy changes and don’t feel that you fit into the standard gym crowd you should really give this a try. The GYIS system is a unique, fun, encouraging, welcoming, work at your own level approach to a total mind and body makeover.
