Describe how the Get You In Shape Biggest Winner Contest has helped you these past 6 weeks? The Get You In Shape Biggest Winner Contest definitely helped me by being accountable. I’ve been in and out of boot camp for years and this past year due to work related stress, I rarely made it to boot camp 10 times a month. In January, I attended 14 sessions, which was unheard of for me. Our team, the Women of Mass Reduction has significantly helped me in making sure I made it to boot camp, was exercising on my off-day cardio days, and journaling my food. I did not want to let the team down and made an all-out effort to do what was expected for the contest. Vilma set up a group messenger so we could talk daily. At least once a week, we tried to work out as a team or meet for off-day cardio. The four of us, Michelle, Leigh, Vilma and I bonded and supported each other 100%.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Contest over the last 6 weeks?

(1) Over the last six weeks, most importantly I lost weight and inches. I lost 9 pounds and 10 inces
(2) I used MyFitnessPal daily and tracked what I ate; this has been a true game changer for me.
(3) I ate breakfast; normally I would grab a Starbucks Non-Fat Two Splenda Latte and drink that on my way to work. Now I’ve been having protein shakes made by husband, Bob every morning.
(4) I packed snacks for the week and took to work. I never got bored, because I would do several variety items.
(5) I used several aps such as MFP, Runkeeper and Couch to 5K which kept me conscious of where I was and what I wanted to accomplish, especially helpful for off-day cardio.
(6) Bob and I are eating better and keeping our refrigerator stocked with “good stuff”. We are definitely not wasting as much food as we have previously. The overall benefit has been my energy has increased and I have some new friends. Thanks fellow Women of Mass Reduction!

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? The obvious are focus on eating, accountability to my team, and improvement to my physical and mental health. I have been more dedicated to make the workouts and off-day cardio. The Challenge has been a driving force in my life these last 6 weeks, and I will strive to continue this even though the “sprint” is over.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? Benefits: loss of weight (13.2 lbs), faster mile time, swam an entire mile (without stopping!), and increased confidence in my abilities. But these pale when compared to the sense of community and bonding I now have with not only my team but with ALL the GYIS’ers. I have a connection with folks that care about their health…..and care about my health and general well being.

Regardless of the outcome, I am a winner, this Challenge was the best thing I have ever done for myself and more importantly, this is the best bunch of people I’ve ever been a part of.

Beth Faught – 10.6 Pounds in 6 weeks.

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? The Biggest Winner Challenge has really helped me stay accountable the past 6 weeks. Having a team for support, a personal coach, and off-day cardio requirements has been a tremendous help. But, most of all – my teammates on Cardio Party of 4 have been so supportive and positive throughout this challenge, and that for me, has made the biggest difference. The best part is, I know the support will continue well after the challenge ends – and we will continue to motivate and challenge each other to achieve our goals.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks?
I have lost about 10.6 lbs and several inches in the last 6 weeks. I am so excited to have lost all the holiday weight, and be off to a great 2015. I feel better than I ever have, and although I still have a ways to go on my weight loss journey, I am so happy with the results I have seen so far. Also, an increase in off-day cardio has me running further, and with more ease than ever before. I am really excited about running my first 10k this year!

Candy York – Lost 19 pounds in 6 week

get-startedDescribe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? The Challenge was MAJOR motivation!! Planning to assure I made Boot Camp, meant changing class times twice–to the 5:30 am class instead of 6:15 pm. This confirms I am NOT a morning person, but it seemed to get easier on the second time. I was also reminded that “Off Day Cardio” is not an option but a crucial step, especially to achieve weight loss.

The community that was the WHOLE challenge was encouraging and supportive. (When talking of my exercise routine at a Dr. apt, my M.D. chided me that “Group Accountability” is another way of saying “Peer Pressure”! We had a good laugh about it. But it works!) And it’s so true as many of my off day workouts were with members of other challenge teams.

I made friends again with “My Fitness Pal”. I had neglected my responsibility as I felt I could run the totals in my head. Tracking and reviewing are extremely important, especially for weight loss.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? I lost over 19 lbs in 6 weeks (Yes they were some I had lost before.). Nine inches are gone in that time as well. My timed mile is now back to within 13 seconds of my best time from last summer. I am back on track after getting sloppy with the food I was eating and the amount of exercise I was doing.

From a community standpoint, I have got to know my fellow boot campers better. It’s amazing how much “life” can be shared on a 5K walk! The posting and messaging on Facebook also contributed to getting to know each other better!

And I had FUN!

Jackie Brainerd – Lost 11.2 pounds in 6 weeks!

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Contest has helped you these past 6 weeks.

  • The contest was the kick start I needed to get back on track from a nutrition and fitness stand-point. The team contest has been such a fun way to stay motivated and accountable. I did not want to let my team down so when I thought about making bad food choices or didn’t want to work out – I thought twice! I really only had a couple of days that I got off track. I reached out to my team and the encouragement I felt was wonderful! I did not know Coach Meg before the contest. I remember being disappointed that Chaney wasn’t out coach. Meg has been awesome!

What have been some of the benefits and results from GYIS Biggest Winner Contest over the last 6 weeks?
Benefits:

  • Team Accountability. I love the team aspect. The benefit of working together, holding each other accountable, lifting each other up when needed and just knowing we were doing this journey together.
  • Tracking my food in MyFitnessPal. Life-changing pretty well sums it up. When I started in September with GYIS I was motivated to work-out but not to track my food. I’m sorry I waited until January to experience the benefit.
  • The Rules. They were encouraging and easy to follow. Just had to follow the rules to reap the benefits.
  • Interaction with my team, other teams and coaches. This was the fun part of the contest. The staff of GYIS are so encouraging and helpful to everyone!
  • Postings on GYIS VIP FB. I have made more friends that are part of the GYISget-started family which makes the workout that much more fun. I really hope we don’t stop. I have picked up so many tips about food especially!
  • Results:
  • I have lost at least 8 lbs. And I don’t plan to stop!
  • I have lost at least 6 inches. My clothes are more comfortable to wear.
  • Physically and mentally I feel so much better than I did 6 weeks ago. My strength and balance is better.

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks?
The challenge has helped me focus on what I eat through the MFP. It was alarming to look at what is a typical American meal and the amount of calories and sugar contained in them. I’m more aware of what I eat and MFP keeps me accountable. I would not have used MFP without the challenge as I had goUen out of the habit of using it.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? I don’t know exactly how much weight I’ve lost but I know my clothes fit a liUle beUer. That was one of my main goals because the results are felt almost immediately. I s0ll have a way to go on my goals but this is a nice step. Also the challenge held me accountable when I would be tempted to make unhealthy food choices. The challenge was a nice kick start to a healthier year this year.

Mona Hinz – Lost 7.8 Pounds in 6 weeks

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? Being involved in biggest winner challenge has kept me motivated by

  • Having the accountability. I never wanted to feel like I was letting the team down. I also made new friends and we would ask each other how they were doing so it made me be more invested it the process.
  • Keeping me focus – Having the checklist gave me specific goals to obtain. I also think it was good to be only 6 weeks. I think any longer and you might start to get lax.

I have also enjoyed reading the hints on the GYIS private facebook page. I will be honest and wasn’t too excited about having to post but I do think I benefited in reading other people’s hints… just reinforced that I am not alone in trying to get healthy.get-started

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? This challenge has made me more aware of what I am eating. I still have lots of work to go on my diet but asking us to use the My Fitness Pal has been an eye opening experience

With this team challenge and the Get You in Shape program along with losing 8 lbs and 8 inches I have lowered my cholesterol, glucose and triglyceride counts.. my doctor is very happy.

Tamra Walker – Lost 14.5 inches in 6 weeks

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? For me, it helped me get past the typical beginning of the year goals and it stretched out my commitment through mid February. The consistency and accountability got my year off to a much stronger start than normal, or how it would have been if I had not been a part of a team.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? Adding Cardio Club so that I would not be tempted to blow off ‘off days’ has allowed me to go from a 10:55 minute mile to a 9:46 minute mile. It has encourage me that if I continue working on these “off” days, I can really achieve my goal of getting to an 8 minute mile. I never thought that was possible and I know that I am just at the beginning of what I am capable of achieving with consistency and determination.

Describe how the Get You In Shape Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks?

The Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped me in many different ways. From helping in sticking to commitments I make to myself via team accountability to observing what works for me via charting my progress (and what I do) via my fitness pal.

It has also helped tremendously by providing a constant source of motivation and inspiration from other participants (either in person at Bootcamp or via Facebook). It has helped in driving the concept of consistency and what to do when you veer off (I’m human, I can fail but I can also get back on that wagon. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Cliché but true. A very important lesson to learn!). By sticking through the lows (weigh-in days… oh boy! J) I have learned to look at other indicators besides just weight to assess my progress (how I feel, how my clothes feel, my energy level, how I handle stress, etc. have become as important, if not more, than actual weight).

Finally, the relationships that I have gained by doing this can do nothing but improve my life. I am grateful for those!

What have been some of the benefits and results from the Get You In Shape Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks?

From the beginning of the Challenge I have:
–  Lost 6.4 lbs. and 17 inches overall
–  Improved my mile run by 35 seconds
–  Gained energy

Describe how the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge has helped you these past 6 weeks? The accountability is always helpful for me. It is much easier to cheat yourself than it is to cheat a bunch of other people that are counting on you. It also helps keep me honest, remember to log everything, make better choices, exercise regularly and eat less, because someone is watching! In addition, my team was very supportive and motivating and that was not only helpful, but made the whole experience enjoyable. And as we all know, diets and/or lifestyle changes aren’t always fun or easy, but this one was because I had a great group of women supporting me.

What have been some of the benefits and results from the GYIS Biggest Winner Team Challenge over the last 6 weeks? I have lost about 9 lbs. I also got to know all of my teammates better and started making small lifestyle changes that I hope I can continue. My clothes fit better and I am feeling better.
