Building a Strong Foundation: Core Values That Shaped 17 Years of Get You In Shape Lesson #2

Lesson #2 Build Solid Core Values and Know What You Stand For.

Get You In Shape, an online and Coppell, TX area fitness company, just celebrated our 17th year of transforming lives in Coppell. Though Get You In Shape was born in 2006 (see the full story of how Get You In Shape Came to be here), the journey truly began a year later when I fully committed to turning a passion for health and fitness into a profession.

Now, after 17 years of growth and service, I want to reflect on lessons learned and the core principles that have shaped our business. If you missed Lesson #1, you can go to our blog post here to read it.

Below are Get You In Shape’s core values. It has changed very little over the last 17 years.  Knowing our core values and living/standing by them day in and day out has helped us stay consistent.

It starts by me, the owner living out our Core Values each and everyday. Then it applies to the Get You In Shape staff and to Clients. Looking back, these core values have certainly been one reason the program has and continues to thrive. My number one value I wanted when starting in 2006 was community. I have heard too many times of people not feeling welcomed or people not being able to stick to a program because they were did not have people in their life that has the same desires to change their lifestyle as they did.

Our Core Values: The Foundation of Our Success

Our core values have remained largely unchanged over the years, providing us with consistency and direction. These values aren’t just words on a page—they guide every action, decision, and interaction at Get You In Shape. As the owner, I live by these values daily, and they extend to our staff and clients alike. It’s no coincidence that our commitment to these principles has played a vital role in our program’s success and longevity.

One of the most significant values I focused on from day one was community. I’ve seen too many people struggle to stick with a program because they lacked a support system—a group of like-minded individuals with the same desire to live a healthier lifestyle.

Community

A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

I am humbled by the community we’ve built at Get You In Shape. Creating an environment where people genuinely want to show up, where they feel welcomed and supported, has been one of my proudest achievements.

Many of our clients started out not knowing anyone in the program, yet over the years, we’ve witnessed friendships blossom. Some clients have even gone on trips together—whether it’s a relay race, a trip to Santa Fe, or a ski adventure in Mexico. People who were once strangers are now some of each other’s closest friends. That’s the power of community.

Why Community Matters in Fitness

Starting and sticking to a fitness program is tough. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to create an environment where motivation, encouragement, accountability, and inspiration thrive. Our clients don’t just have a trainer—they have a team of supporters who share the same goals and are committed to staying consistent in fitness and nutrition.

Having a support system, whether it’s from trainers, the tools we provide, or the community of Get You In Shape clients, is a game-changer. This environment has been key to our program’s success.

Get You In Shape’s Core Values

Here are the five core values that have driven us over the past 17 years:

  1. Community: Create a positive and healthy environment that promotes motivation, encouragement, accountability, and inspiration.
  2. Servant’s Heart: Respect and serve each person, wherever they are on their health and fitness journey.
  3. Empower: Motivate each client to live a healthy lifestyle so they can pay it forward to others.
  4. Give Back: Use our God-given gifts to serve our community and contribute to worthy causes.
  5. Over-Deliver: Provide a service that goes above and beyond what’s expected from a typical fitness program.

Our Mission Statement

Get You In Shape provides science-based, no-hype health and nutrition solutions to our clients by delivering an outstanding, positive experience.

We achieve this by:

  • Educating the community
  • Delivering results-driven programs
  • Helping those who want to be helped
  • Acting in a manner that brings out the best in others
  • Enriching the lives of those we come into contact with

Our core values and mission statement have allowed us to create a program that truly produces results (check out our YouTube playlist with over 1,100 video success stories) and provides the level of service people need in a fitness program.

Carrying Our Values Forward

Over the years, we’ve continued to live out these values by hosting client appreciation events, team challenges, breakfasts after boot camp, and other activities that foster a sense of community. This has allowed us to create not just a fitness program, but an experience that motivates, inspires, and empowers people to change their lives for the better.
