Advocare 24 Day Success Story from Gary and Lynn Green

3rd Place Lynn Green. $100 winner

Congrats to Lynn Green for coming in 3rd place. Lynn ended up 3rd in our recent Advocare 24 Day Challenge Contest by losing 4.47% body weight in just 24 Days and won $100

Where were you at before you started the 24 Day Challenge?
We were both exercising almost daily with GYIS Boot Camp and Cardio Club. We felt like we had developed some bad nutrition habits. Overall we were eating healthy but we were starting to see weight gain.

Why did you decide to start the 24 Day Challenge?

We have been doing the GYIS Boot Camp program for close to 2 years and felt we could benefit from the 24 day challenge after reading through the information and attending the information session. We viewed it more as a reset for eating right than a weight loss program.

What were your initial thoughts after you started the 24 Day Challenge?
We did not think it was as difficult to follow as we feared prior to starting. It does take some planning with meals and snacks to stay within the boundaries of the program. There are plenty of tools to use to help guide you through the program.

What are some of the things you enjoyed about the 24 Day Challenge?
Well, for one, we both kicked our caffeine and latte addiction. We still enjoy a cup of coffee now that the challenge is over but it is not an everyday habit. Our cooking has returned to a more wholesome and healthy focus. It is easy to fall into the hamburger and hot dog cycle where those become routine. Now we have those types of items as a reward.

What were your results from the 24 Day Challenge?
I (Lynn) ended up losing 4.47% body weight in 24 Days and Gary lost close to 8 pounds. We both lost some weight but the biggest benefit is feeling healthier as a result of improved eating habits.

What makes the 24 Day Challenge different than other programs you have tried in the past?
I have not tried other programs to be able to compare. I don’t think anything else has caught my attention enough to try.

What are your goals after the 24 Day Challenge?
Maintain the momentum we have gained from the challenge!

2nd Place Dave Lacinski. $150

Congrats to both Dave and Linda on some great 24 Day Challenge results. Dave ended up losing 12 pounds and placed 2nd in the recent Advocare 24 Day Challenge Contest. Dave ended up losing over 5% of his body weight in just 24 short days.  This  Get You In Shape 24 Day Challenge contest had over 30 other participants. So say “Congrats Dave!”

Where were you at before you started the 24 Day Challenge?
Linda and I were attending Boot Camp for about 3 months and had seen some positive results. I had lost about 10 lbs and a few inches.

Why did you decide to start the 24 Day Challenge?
I wanted to accelerate my weight loss. The boot camp was helping with my strength but my blood pressure was getting into the worrisome area and with my family history I felt it was time to move to the next step to lose more inches, reduce weight and generally improve my energy level.

What were your initial thoughts after you started the 24 Day Challenge?
Initially I thought the hard part was going to be able to manage the timing of the meals and the preparation. Honestly, I wasn’t looking forward to the cleanse phase either. Fortunately the cleanse phase was not as difficult as I had imagined. My biggest obstacle was what to do with my lunch. But as we looked into planning out the week, lunch became less of a problem.

What are some of the things you enjoyed about the 24 Day Challenge?

My thoughts are similar to Linda’s. The meal planning, while it took a bit more time than just going to the grocery store and getting the usual items, turned out to be productive. It really made me think about what I ate, why I ate it and when I ate. Once we got into a routine, it was quite easy to stay on track. I felt better and saw my energy level really jump. It was actually refreshing to not eat the junk food!

I also liked that Linda and I did the Challenge together. Not only were we able to hold each other accountable, there was always some words of motivation when it looked like one of us was about to lurch off the track. I definitely would recommend a “training partner”. It really helps. I also knew that Brad was available to answer our questions if something wasn’t going as we had expected it to.

The Advocare products have been very good and are tailor-able to what you would like to accomplish. While it may seem that the cost of the products is significant, I in fact made up for that by buying less expensive junk food!

What were your results from the 24 Day Challenge?
I lost about 12 lbs and 5 inches. The weight loss was great, but my energy level has really increased as well as my stamina and strength due to focus on both the 24 day challenge and continuing to attend boot camp regularly.

What makes the 24 Day Challenge different than other programs you have tried in the past?
I was never big into diets so it’s a bit hard to compare. What I will say is that similar to Linda’s thoughts, the defined process, clear instructions made it easy to follow without having to think about every step. I could really feel the positive difference early on the process.

What are your goals after the 24 Day Challenge?

I would like to increase my strength and energy level more. I would also like to fit an extra day or two of cardio in to a very busy schedule. I would like to lose an additional 10 lbs or so.

Linda’s Section

Where were you at before you started the 24 Day Challenge?
Dave and I have been working out at Get You in Shape boot camp 3 times per week since April and saw great results at the beginning…then after a few months, I hit a plateau.

Why did you decide to start the 24 Day Challenge?
I needed something to help break through to that next level. I’m fortunate that I never had a huge issues with staying in shape or near my desired weight, however hitting a major milestone a year or so ago really changed my body and my ability to stay in the shape I wanted to be in. I heard so many good things about the 24 Day Challenge and how others achieved success, so I thought I’d give it a try. I knew just thinking about what I ate, when I ate it, and what nutritional value was I receiving from what I ate was a great thing to refocus on.

I also wanted to support my husband and help him achieve his goals. I knew that meal planning could be a challenge with our hectic work schedule, but knew we would succeed doing it together and supporting each other.

What were your initial thoughts after you started the 24 Day Challenge?
I wasn’t sure I would be able to survive without my chai tea lattes, nor a piece of chocolate or after dinner sweet. A few days, weeks and now month later, I’ve realized that I really don’t need chocolate on a regular basis. Is that even possible?! When I enjoy a bite of chocolate, it’s a small bite and I treat it like the real treat that is it, rather than something I need to end each dinner with.

What are some of the things you enjoyed about the 24 Day Challenge?
Dave and I sat down with the suggested/allowed foods, and planned out 5 days’ worth of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. We shopped for only the items on our list. I also emptied my pantry of foods that we no longer needed to be eating like crackers, pretzels, chips, girl scout cookies (yes – I threw them away. OMG!)

After emptying our bags of fresh fruit, veggies, lettuce, fish, and chicken on the island, we proceeded to pack up a couple of lunches and snacks for the next days. That made it very easy to eat the right things. For example, when we came home from work, we knew what we were going to cook. No more 6:30pm phone calls in the car heading home from work…, “I’m starving, are you? We don’t have anything in the house to eat. Want me to grab Taco Bell on the way home?”

Dave and I planning our meals together and holding each other accountable really made it much easier than I had thought. I highly recommend having an accountability partner and who better than your spouse or significant other!

What were your results from the 24 Day Challenge?
I lost 4 pounds and 2.5 inches in those 24 days. I slept more deeply at night, had more energy during the day and I felt so much better overall.

What makes the 24 Day Challenge different than other programs you have tried in the past?
Having specific “directions” to follow including foods to eat, foods to avoid, nutritional supplements, suggested recipes, etc. all planned out with easy to follow instructions made it easy to stay on track. Also, seeing results as we went provided the extra encouragement to keep at it.

What are your goals after the 24 Day Challenge?
I want the way we’ve been eating for the past month to become the norm and I am convinced we are positioned to do that. I’d like to add one day a week of cardio to our usual routine to maintain or even lose just another couple of pounds I want to continue to gain nutritional value from the foods we eat and the Advocare supplements we take. This will change the way I eat and even think about food forever.

1st Place – David Smith
David Lost 25.2 Pounds on the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. He deserves the $250 for losing the top weight loss percentage out of the entire group. Dave lost 9.76 of his weight in just 24 Days.

Where were you at before you started the 24 day challenge?
I originally lost a lot of weight (50-60 pounds) four years ago using Get You in Shape. Since then, I have put some weight back on, lost it, put some back on, etc. I was up to my third-highest weight in that time and was bouncing inside a ten pound range as I’d focus on eating better for a week, then gain it all back in a bad weekend. Cravings and stress eating tended to rule my days. I’m always amazed at how much I’m overeating when I actually buckle down and start losing. Anyway, I was tired of being larger than I wanted; I was achy, taking ibuprofen literally 3-4 times per day for joint and other aches, and drinking a lot of caffeine. Not to mention rather discouraged thinking about how hard the weight loss would be.

Why did you decide to start the 24 Day Challenge?
I had done it previously with Get You in Shape, and I always have had great results with the cleanse. My weakness has been the period thereafter. I would add back some dairy and “whole grains” but wind up giving in to carb cravings. I saw there was a contest and decided that might be the extra motivation I needed to behave a little differently this time.
What were your initial thoughts after you started the 24 Day Challenge?
One of them was “My goodness this is not much food,” but my stomach soon shrank and it became much easier. I also felt better pretty quickly. The fiber drink is not my favorite, but the taste has improved since I first started using them about four years ago. Also, I was simply amazed at how much weight came off in the first few days. It was very encouraging to be around all of the positive people at the opening meeting, too.
What are some of the things you enjoyed about the 24 Day Challenge?
The RESULTS, the way healthy food started tasting better to me, and the way bad food and drinks started tasting worse. Others are the fact that I realized after a week or so that I had not taken a single ibuprofen or aspirin! I was playing basketball, and my knees weren’t bothering me as much. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the other folks doing the challenge with me. In addition, the support materials including the daily coach web site were VERY helpful. I made that my home page so that it was the first page I saw when I logged on every day. Loved the meal shakes, and I like having a daily routine to stick by with the checklists.

What were your results from the 24 Day Challenge?
I lost 25.2 pounds! In 24 days! Holy cow. I lost 10.5 inches as well, and I got out of the OTC pain med cycle. I proved to myself that I COULD have the discipline to stick it out, and since the challenge ended, I have continued to abide by the pattern. I am quicker in basketball and have yet to take an ibuprofen since I have been out. I feel better and have been sleeping more soundly too! I have a spring in my step from all the compliments I have been receiving, and I have got back to wearing my “skinny clothes.” I was able to go skydiving!

What makes the 24 Day Challenge different from other programs you have tried in the past?
I like how organized it is, and how the emphasis is on getting healthier rather than just being about avoiding things/losing weight. Granted the cleanse portion has plenty of “avoids,” but it is for a set time period and for a specific purpose, rather than a depressing never ending “thou shalt not…” The camaraderie is great too, the supplements very effective and the meal shakes are very tasty. Berry is my favorite.  Plus, Brad and Cynthia and the other Get You in Shape staff are some of the most positive people in the world.

What are your goals after the 24 Day Challenge?
I plan to stay on the supplements, to continue to eat healthily, and to limit my “bad” meals to one day per week. Before, I would cheat a little every day. I also intend to reward myself differently. In the past I have tended to treat myself with a meal or dessert. I need a better, more healthy way to reward myself, and deciding on that is one of my first goals. I do not intend to ever need to lose 25 pounds again.
