“Where Are They Now” Spotlight – Oct 2018 – Julie Madden

Julie Madden is a volunteer, mentor, member of Coppell Lions Club, has been living in Coppell since 1993. She started GYIS July 2017 (as she says) at a pretty “hefty” weight.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
I did a lot of walking & some classes at a gym. Any diet was on and off. Mostly off. I ate a lot of sugar, mainly snicker bars.

Q: What was your reason(s) or “So That” for joining the Get You In Shape Program?
To fit in my Mother of the Brides Dresses the following July and to go hiking in Colorado to climb a 14er.

Q: What results and benefits did you initially experience with the Get You In Shape Program?
I lost 7 pounds in my first month of the Get you In Shape program and another 5 in my second month. After five months, I was down 25 pounds.” I couldn’t believe how easy it was, simply by eating clean and using some supplements. I wasn’t eating much, but had lots of energy, and felt strong. Great sleeping when you’re worn out. Loved the workouts!!

Q: What results and benefits you accomplished beyond your initial results?
2018 has been an awesome year. I turned 60, both of our daughters got married, 5 weeks apart this summer, I wore 2 beautiful Mother of the Brides dresses. Last July I tried on a size 14-16, but the dresses I wore, 1 was a size 10, one was a size 8. Have to admit, I looked pretty good!!

Q: Why do you choose to continue to be a part of Get You In Shape after all this time?
It’s like “family”. I’ve made a lot of friends in the 6:30 am class, and I love the trainers, especially Lotta, who works us really hard. But it’s a great feeling to accomplish something difficult each day.

Q: What do you feel have been some of the keys that have helped you throughout the journey?
Boot camp 3 times a week, walk 2 days a week, use myfitnesspal, eat healthier, drink more water, no more drive through burgers.

Q: What new goals or “So Thats” have you set?
After the weddings this year, my next “so that” was to climb a 14er in Colorado. I did that last week!!! Super hard, but I had more strength and stamina because of the workouts.
Next “So That”…I guess next will hopefully be grandchildren, I want to be ready to play and run with them. Also, I’m hiking Big Bend National Park in November, so I will continue to work hard for that.
