Amy Bishop Before After COY1
Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program?

Amy Bishop CPA – auditor at local public accounting firm in Flower Mound. I’ve been in the Get You In Shape program for 5 months (July 2014)

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like? Before Get You In Shape, I was, and still, a mother of 7 year old twins (Josh and Makena) when a job that is very stressful and I make it stressful as well. I would eat my stress away. Well, I tried. I would grab candy as I walked by, handfuls at a time. The pounds over the years packed on. I was depressed because of how I felt about myself. I hated what I had allowed to happen. I was tried all the time after work and did not have the energy to play with the kids. Also, I had started to walk around the park and started the Couch to 5K program. I started to get pain around the knee and looked it up and it appeared that I had runner’s knee. All the research showed that I need to strengthen the muscles around the knee. So, I needed strength training. A co-worker reminded me of the time that I lost all my weight before and that I was doing some boot camp (which was Get You In Shape).

Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? I decided to join Get You In Shape because I needed a change. I needed to focus on me and get back to a place that I felt good about myself.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape? My first impression of Get You In Shape after returning back from when I was here (@ Get You In Shape) in January 2009 was the people. The personal trainers were the same and there were others that had been there when I was there back in January 2009. I don’t remember them but after talking with some, they mentioned how long they had been with the program.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you? Some of the tools I have used from the Get You In Shape program are My Fitness pal, Facebook community, Advocare nutrition products that are in the Nutrition System and the member’s only website for workouts when I was on vacation.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
What I like most about Get You In Shape are the people and the community. Everyone looks after everyone. The personal trainers check in with you when I miss to make sure that everything is good.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life? Get You In Shape has helped change my life by motivating me and encouraging me. I have more energy, strong and more motivated.

What is your proudest moment or moment or results from the Get You in Shape program? My proudest moment is my mile time. My first month was 11 minutes and 29 seconds (I believe) and November time was 8 minutes 57 seconds. I have not had that time probably since high school. I am ready to get to under 8 minutes as my next goal.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life? Get You In Shape has given me the energy that I needed. I am able to run without pain in my knees. I have the energy to play with my kids. I sleep better. I am motivated.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program?
I have lost around 32 pounds and around 14-15 inches since joining 5 months ago. I have the increased energy and sleep better.

Get You In Shape Success Story – Candy York lost 55 pounds and got her LIFE back!

Candy Before After COY 31

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program? Candy York. I’m a Food Scientist and Director of Product Development for a small prepared food company. I’ve lived in Coppell since April of 2013. October’s session marked my first anniversary with Get You In Shape

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like? Before moving to the Dallas area, I was averaging 10-14 hours a day at work and working on weekends. I didn’t have much time for anything other than work, so exercise and even eating right were not a priority. I was exhausted. With my health issue and complete imbalance on work/ life, something had to give.

Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? After struggling for 3 years to get a chronic health problem under control, I finally had the energy to consider exercising again. It coincided with the Get You In Shape 6th anniversary promotion I saw in the margins of my web browser. I enjoy team sports and group exercise. And while I had heard of Fitness Boot Camps, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

The biggest change came from my fellow fitness boot campers. I’m a social animal and the warm and welcoming people at boot camp have become my friends. In a new city, being able to establish a community can be difficult. Regular activities we’ve done together (like paddle boarding), additional challenges outside of fitness boot camp and healthy dinners have helped me to make friends outside of work. Physically, I noticed immediate changes in circulation as the edema in my ankles was resolved. I definitely enjoy an increased energy level that I’ve begun to take for granted as my new normal!!

What is your proudest moment or moment or results from the Get You in Shape program? My proudest moment is realization of my “So That” Candy After_trickgoal I established in my introductory meeting had been met. My “So That” was to become physical able to participate in the active life of my grandson.) This October, not only was I able to easily navigate a 5 mile Trick or Treat route with my grandson, the following day I was able to jog by his side while he was on his bicycle. My amazement came at the time I realized the dog was just not walking but actually loping and I was maintaining my pace with the dog and with the bicycling boy. I still get emotional when I realized I had Candy After_walkingfulfilled my promise to myself. Now it’s time to revise my “So That”. I doubt it will ever be to run a marathon…that is not my dream, but someone else’s….but I’ll find something meaningful to achieve.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life? I’ve gotten involved in the community activities sponsored by Get You In Shape. Giving back is easier when the date and time are already established. I’ve also worked harder at cooking for one. Previously, it was easier to grab something “prepared”. The choices aren’t always as good as putting together something myself. When I’m successful, I enjoy sharing with the GYIS’ers.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape

Candy earning some cash in our 10 week Transformation Contest this year.

program? My performance and my progress peaked at the end of June. I had lost 55 lbs and an overall total of 34.5”. It’s interesting to compare results of testing when compared to the measurements. The fastest times and greatest reps came at the time when I was at my peak. Shortly after July 4, I had some chronic health issues that have just recently been resolved. I’ve backslid a little, but continue to find that peak performance level. No matter how I feel, I always feel better after the Get You In Shape Boot Camp.

Get You In Shape Success Story – Joe O’Brien

Joe Before After COY3

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program?
My name is Joe O’Brien. I am the Director of Engineering for Triumph Accessory Services – Grand Prairie (Aerospace MRO Company). I live in Coppell with my wife Leanna, two boys Owen and Corbin, and our pup, Ryker.

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?

Much like it is now in the sense that life is still quite busy with a demanding job and young kids, but I was much less active on a daily basis than I am now.

Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?

I wanted to see if it would help me to lose some weight. The financial commitment was not huge for the short initial commitment I made, and I wanted to see if this program could really help provide legitimate results in the short and, hope upon hope, the long run also. Honestly, I really doubted how good this program would be because I have had many subpar experiences with workout programs and workout commitments in the past. Several times in the past I paid for services I did not ultimately receive, other times I just had difficulty sustaining a commitment to working out.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?

My first impression with Get You In Shape was that the program was legitimate — By the way, this is a big compliment from me because I have had many experiences with workout groups that would best be termed flaky — I have always been athletic so I felt sure I could do the workout, but I also felt that the workout would be a good challenge. I liked the trainer-led sessions. I liked that the personal trainers were upbeat and positive. I liked that the workouts were outside. I liked that the same group of people were participating in the workout on a daily basis. I liked that I just had to come ready to work out and that I did not have to develop a workout regimen or routine every day. I liked that the workouts were different every day and that anyone could do the workout through modifications or decreased reps, etc. as needed — the fact that anyone can do the workout strikes me as analogous to the Biblical concept that it is not the healthy who need healing so come as you are. In the same way, come as you are to get in shape. If you wait until you are in shape, you will never get in shape…Gotta love flawed circular logic! — I liked that Get You In Shape provided knowledge to help answer questions like what constitutes good nutrition. I liked that I felt accountable to the trainers and the group of people to be there every day ready to work out and get in shape.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?

Especially early on in the program, I gleaned knowledge from the literature Get You In Shape provides. I learned better what kinds of foods to eat, amounts thereof, etc. I had really been lacking some of this fundamental knowledge. Another tool Get You In Shape touts is the “My Fitness Pal” app for smart phones that helps one track calories associated with activity and food throughout the day. With this app, I realized that I was eating more food than I really needed and I was really blown away by how many calories are in certain foods that may be otherwise “healthy.” When I really started to pay attention to my caloric intake I was blown away with how many calories are in foods that I was eating on a regular basis. It really struck me at a personal level that our restaurants in the US justify charging higher and higher prices by providing more and more food which customers perceive as more value. In reality, though, most people do not really need as much food as even “normal” meals have in them. The bi-weekly measurements (weight and dimensions – waist, hips, arms, thighs, etc.) help me to stay motivated and accountable. The on-going fitness challenges such as the timed mile help to spur on my competitive nature. Get You In Shape provided me the “carrot,” and I hope to be a “carrot” for others.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
What I like most about the Get You In Shape program is that it is not just about one thing. People are complex. We are not able to be easily categorizes and simplified into a small box. The Get You In Shape program is sustainable long term because the trainers are encouraging and provide accountability, because the group of people with whom you work out become more like family every day, because Get You In Shape encourages everyone in the program from the start to remind themselves of their reason(s) for getting into shape (health, family, increase activity levels, etc.).

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life? The Get You In Shape program has helped change my life by providing a sustainable program where I can come every day to get and stay in shape. Get You In Shape has given me a venue for sustaining a high level of physical activity.

What is your proudest moment or moment or results from the Get You in Shape program? I think my proudest moment with Get You In Shape what when I first weighed in at less than 200 lbs. My next proudest moment was when I first broke the 6 minute mark running the mile.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life? The Get You In Shape program has impacted my life in that I have had to buy a new wardrobe of clothing!! Feel bad for me! Honestly, though, when I started the program I was wearing 38” waist pants and my 17 – 17 ½” neck shirts were a bit tight. I have now had to get rid of these pants and shirts because they are too big. I am back in a 34” waist (comfortably!) and 16” neck for my dress shirts. My XL shirts are now too big and blousy as well.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program? Since starting the Get You In Shape program almost 5 months ago, I have lost nearly 30 pounds and 23 total inches, including 6 inches from my waist. I have improved my best mile time from 7 minutes and 28 seconds to 5 minutes and 52 seconds. Generally speaking, my overall fitness has greatly improved. For example, when I first started with Get You In Shape, I was able to really push myself and run a 5K with maybe an 8.5 minute mile average (at least more than 26 minutes to run a 5K). About a month ago, I ran a Get You In Shape community 5K in 22:05. Earlier this week, on my “off-day cardio” sessions Tuesday and Thursday I ran 8 miles and 8.5 miles respectively–about an 8 minute mile average but for 8 + miles!!. I have never run or been able to run this much in the past. In addition to performance improvements, overall, my body feels better. Specifically, my lower back, neck, and knees hurt less now than when I began!

I came across this picture of me from several years ago after I had begun a more sedentaryJoe Before After COY3 existence at work and my activity levels had significantly decreased following college. I did not realize how out of shape I had gotten. I had always been an athlete in great shape, but when I began working, had children, pursued advanced degrees and professional certifications, my activity level declined and my eating habits worsened. I did not place enough priority on building a new habit of sustaining healthy activity. I am grateful for the Get You In Shape program because, in the midst of a busy life, it provides a fantastic, sustainable venue to help me stay in shape!

Get You In Shape Success Story – Allison J Lost 11 Pounds in her first 24 Days!

Coppell Fitness
I am fitting into clothes that haven’t fit me in a long time!

I wanted to thank you all for introducing me to the 24 Day Challenge. I truly think that it’s changed my life. After I had my second child last summer I’ve really struggled to get back to where I was beforehand. I absolutely love Get You In Shape fitness program and how much stronger and in shape it’s made me, but I’ve struggled over the last 6 months with my eating. I had heard about the 24 Day Challenge and knew a few people who had had great results so I was ready to get started. More than just the 11 pound weight loss in 24 Days and the clothes that I haven’t fit in to for a while, I just feel so much better. I was amazed that I could eat this well and not crave the carbs and sugar that I always felt like I needed. I’ve also struggled a lot with energy since my second was born. I have a more than 40 hour a week job plus family commitments, a husband who is a rugby coach and trying to fit in time for myself (which is normally boot camp), has been a real challenge. I’ve been amazed at how much more energy I really have now with eating better and the Spark.

Overall, I’m just thrilled with the results of the 24 Day Challenge. I have so much more energy than before and feel like my kids and husband are reaping the benefits of that. I’m just amazed at how this has really changed my life and made so many aspects of it better.

Get You In Shape Success Story – Felicia “I hit my first big goal of 135lbs! I haven’t been at this weight since before I got married, over 2 years ago!”

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? I was ready for change. I wasn’t happy with how I felt and I knew anything would be better than what I was doing. I just didn’t realize how much I would love this program.

Felicia Before and After Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program? I was tired all the time so it made it hard to get up to do anything, and I was eating way too much for one person. As a result, I gained quite a bit of weight fast. I started to see the negative change in my body and realized this was not who I wanted to be.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. I loved that the trainers took the time to walk me through the exercises. The first week I was sore but I felt better than I had in months! I was excited for the new life style I was starting.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you? I have used MyFitness Pal to log all of my food, which has helped me stay accountable. I have also been using the Advocare products. They have improved my energy, helped with appetite control, and the meal replacement shakes are wonderful!!

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? The workouts we do are different every time, and the trainers are so encouraging. They also help you with nutrition and are always available for any questions you may have.

Felicia Monroe Before After BacksideQ: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program? I lost 7 pounds and over 13 inches my first month. I hit my first big goal of 135lbs! I haven’t been at this weight since before I got married, over 2 years ago!! I have so much more energy and I feel a lot better about myself. I also have more energy. I don’t hit the midday slumps anymore and I feel like I get so much more done during the day. I felt great! I also started doing off day cardio. I wasn’t able to run a mile in less than 11 min before I started GYIS and by the end of the first month I was running it just under 10 min.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program? Do it!! You will not regret it!! There is so much more to this program than the workout.

Get You In Shape Success Story – Amber Lost 17 Pounds in 3 months!

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
Amber Malcolm, Stay at home mom, Lewisville Texas, August 2012

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I wanted to get back in shape but wasn’t able to stay consistent. I went to a few classes here and there but was not keeping up with what I was eating. I was self conscious and didn’t like what I saw when someone took a picture of me. I also wanted to be in better shape to play with my kids.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?
I was introduced to the Get You In Shape program through a Groupon that Lindy Kinnan ran across. It was 1 month and I thought it would be a great jump start back into the reality of the gym. I also wanted to carve a little bit of “me” time and this was one area where I wanted to see change. I joined after the first month was up because I could see that this program worked and was fun.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
My first thoughts were that I wasn’t going to make it… it had been a minute or two since I had worked out and thought OH NO…. what have I committed to? Every trainer was supportive, friendly and encouraging. I have trained with personal trainers before but the difference was that the Get You In Shape trainers make you work the entire time and socialize before or after. I feel like I get a better workout here than in the past. One thing that sticks out to me is when I was curious about whether or not people kept signing up, even with the season changes, and Kristi said… Well… it can be addicting. I remember thinking. SURE, okay – people really come in the rain, freezing cold and extreme heat? And now I am doing just that and thankful for every chance I get to attend a session.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
I have listened and watched the trainers tips and enjoyed the weekly emails, although I don’t always get to finish them in one sitting. I also completed the 24 Day Challenge and have continued on the spark and meal replacement shakes. I keep up with the page on Facebook and also used the recipe section as I love to cook.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
Community, accountability, variety of workouts/locations, functional training and lots of core work. I also like that I have tapped into the possibility of enjoying running. I actually just ran 3 miles consecutively in less than 30 min for the first time in my life, all attributed to the past 3 months.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I am happier, more content with what I see in the mirror and feel more like “me” again and not just Todd’s wife, or Kaleigh or Dylan’s mom. I have a lot more energy, sleep better and I’m excited about what the future holds.

What is your proudest moment or moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
Weight loss as of Nov. 16: 16.4 lbs and 18.5 inches in 3 months AND… my first timed mile since high school was 9:54 and the most recent was 8:02..

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
My husband has joined the Get You In Shape Program this past month because he can see the results and how excited I am about feeling better. Both of my parents are currently starting the second phase of the 24 Day Challenge and my entire family is eating better because I am the one who cooks all of the meals and I am NOT cooking something I can’t eat.** I think most importantly though it has reignited my desire to be in better health NOW so that I am around for LATER. Playing with my kids, being active with them, traveling and being around for their kids.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Weight loss as of Nov. 16: 16.4 lbs and 18.5 inches. Best time for the mile: 8:02.

I feel stronger and more confident. I am thrilled with the weight loss and inches lost and I’m excited about toning up and seeing where I go from here! The trainers, workouts, attitudes of those around us are contagious.

Focus on the change and you will see results – never believed it as much as I do now.

Get You In Shape Success Story – Bob Calabro 30 Pounds in 5 months!

Bob Before After11. Name, what you do, and where you are from?

Bob Calabro, I am retired after working 32 years for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. I have lived in Coppell for 21 years.

2 Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?

Like everyone I wanted to lose some weight. But more importantly I wanted to change my diet and workout habits. My wife Gina and I decided to join together this past April. Our diet has improved since we are both in the GYIS program.
3 What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Before GYIS I lacked energy and was always tired, my diet had no balance, and I was not sleeping well.

4 What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
From the get go I was impressed by the GYIS instructors who are always positive and know everyone by name. I always feel like they are looking out for me. Also workouts are never the same, the variation keeps you interested. There are also many fun contests to help motivation.

5 What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Bimonthly Measurements and Weight Tracking have been beneficial to keeping me on track. I use my UP band to help track my steps, calories burned, and count my hours of sleep each night. I also take Advocare products daily, shakes as a morning meal replacement, Catalyst before every workout , and I also love Spark energy drink.

6. How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? Or What makes Get you In Shape different or unique?
The personalized attention separates GYIS from the run of the mill gym work out. The instructors take a personal interest in your workout goals encouraging me to celebrate small wins along the way. Workout mates are also very encouraging helping to motivate one another. This positive environment helps me look forward to the next workout no matter how challenging.

7 What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I lost 10 pounds my first month of GYIS and another 5 pounds per month for the next 4 months. After five months I am down 30 pounds. I am now eating better, the doctor has reduced my blood pressure\cholesterol meds by 50 percent, I am also sleeping much better and have much more energy throughout the day.

8 What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
GYIS has been a game changer for me and can be for anyone that is willing to make modifications in their exercise and diet habits. I now look forward to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday(s) due to the positive vibe that all the instructors and clients bring to each and every workout. You will look and feel better in a short period of time.

Below are the Results from our Total Transforation Contest which is just a 10 week program incorporating the Get You in Shape program and the Advocare products.

Lost 23.2 Pounds, 25 inches and 12% body weight in just 10 Weeks

1 Name, what you do, and where do you live?

My name is Elisabeth Cole. I am a mother of 4 boys and a preschool teacher living in Coppell, Texas

2 Why did you decide to join the Total Transformation Contest?Liz Before After Picture Front
I joined the contest because several other friends were doing it and asked me to join them. I sounded like a great way to jump start weight loss.

3 What was your life like before joining the Total Transformation Contest?

Before joining the contest I was trying to get through my days feeling tired and overwhelmed. I felt like I needed to nap after work, before beginning the afternoon activities with my own boys. I was drinking at least a pot of coffee a day and still struggling to remain alert in the late afternoon. The increase in my weight was making me very uncomfortable as well.

4 What was your first impression from the Total Transformation Contest program?
My first impression was that it was a well organized program that could get me moving in the right direction. As I looked into it further I was very impressed by all the tools available including the webinars and the online community.

5. What have been some of the tools that are a part of the Total Transformation Contest that you have used that have benefited you?
I have been consistently taking the products in the 24 Day Challenge Bundle. I have

continued to use the meal replacement shakes, spark and catalyst in addition to the MNS E vitamins. I have found the information posted on the facebook site to be helpful and it has motivated me to keep going. Though not required by the program – I have found logging my food to be extremely helpful in remaining on task.

6. How is the Total Transformation Contest program different from other programs you have tried before? Or What makes the Total Transformation Contest different or unique?

The Contest has provided a step by step nutritional system to follow. I could refer to theLiz Before After Picture Side 24 day challenge book to quickly get ideas for snacks and meals. The book gives clear directions on what vitamins to take, the timing of them and suggested foods, taking away all the guesswork. It made me really focus on what I was eating and when. It also reminded me of the importance of making time for exercise.

7. What results and benefits have you experienced in the Total Transformation Contest?

I have seen many results from my participation in the contest. First I have lost weight! 23.2 lbs total, 12.4 lbs in the first 4 weeks and an additional 10.8 in the remaining 6 weeks. More importantly – I feel better. I have more energy and do not need to take a nap after work. I can drive my boys to their afternoon activities without struggling to remain awake. I have also stopped drinking massive quantities of coffee. I find that spark gives me all the added energy I need and keeps me alert. I am sleeping better at night as well, not waking multiple times and trying to go back to sleep. Finally, at the start of the contest I struggled to finish 1 mile jogging in under 11 minutes. Now I can consistently jog 3-4 miles at a 10 minute pace. I have a renewed desire to be physically fit and active!

8. What would you say to anyone looking at joining or trying the Total Transformation Contest?

I would suggest that they go for it and fully commit themselves. Follow the system provided and focus on what you can do and can eat versus things that you cannot do/eat. I would also suggest that they make short term goals, along with the long term goals. As you achieve the short term goals it will motivate you to keep going.

2 Why did you decide to join the Total Transformation Contest?
I decided to join the Total Transformation Contest because I had just had enough of the yo-yo diet cycle. AND, one week before the contest began I found out that I was pre-diabetic and on my way to diabetes if I didn’t do something. And, my cholesterol was too high, my thyroid was messed up and I didn’t feel good physically or emotionally. I needed something to get my “butt” in gear, so I thought, why not?

3 What was your life like before joining the Total Transformation Contest?
First off, I have been a Get You in Shape Boot Camper for 3 ½ years. Along the way, I saw myself get stronger, but not leaner because I didn’t make the consistent nutrition changes that were needed. Six months before the contest, I incurred a neck and back injury and was told that I should not participate in boot camp again. I was devastated to say the least. I completely stopped exercising other than leisurely walking and had almost convinced myself that this was “it”. This would be the extent of my exercising forever. I was also eating through my emotions and that just became a vicious cycle. I was completely miserable. So, I decided to return and incorporate plenty of stretching into my schedule so that I could maintain an active lifestyle for the long term. I told myself to do only what I can do and not try to be a crazy superstar on the first day. I started back to GYIS in November 2013 but didn’t change my eating. I just got bigger and more frustrated with myself. I would say the biggest turning point was when my doctor told me on January 8th that I was headed towards disease if I didn’t’ do something RIGHT NOW. It scared me. So, I knew I had to give the Total Transformation Contest a try.
4 What was your first impression from the Total Transformation Contest program?
Initially, I expected it to be like the other 24-Day Program through Advocare. I would stick to it for 24 days and then, I would probably return to my old ways. Disappointing myself once again. But….something happened during that first 24 days that had never happened before. I felt hope inside. I was beginning to “get it”. I actually really liked the food and the way that it made me feel. The support from Brad, Julie and my other trainers at GYIS was incredible, checking in with me frequently. By February, I knew it was different this time. I might actually do this!
5 What have been some of the tools that are a part of the Total Transformation Contest that you have used that have benefited you?
Ellie Before After Side6. How is the Total Transformation Contest program different from other programs you have tried before? Or What makes the Total Transformation Contest different or unique?
The tools have been key and I have taken advantage of everything possible. I think that is what has made the difference for me this time. I took the Advocare Nutritional SupplementsMSN supplements, catalyst, spark and nighttime recovery, meal replacement shakes and an occasional snack bar. These have been key to feeling good and managing my hunger levels and energy. I listened to the webinars and they educated me and made me feel “normal”. The trainers really understood the way I was feeling and guided me down the right road. My Fitness Pal was a huge tool for me. It opened my eyes up to not only calories, but also the nutritional value of each food. In order for me to make positive changes in my health, I vowed to log everything that I put in my mouth and I did!! No cheating because I would only be cheating myself. The Face Book TTC page was one of my highlights too!! Everyday I loved seeing the pictures and posts from my new friends around the country. I feel as if we have been on this journey together even though we have never met. Everyone is a winner and I truly mean that! I have gained new friends here in Coppell that I hold in my heart. And, Julie, one of our killer personal trainers, really helped me tweak my nutrition and fitness to get my metabolism working correctly. It was scary to add 300 calories per day to my food intake near the end of this contest, but it was exactly what was needed for me to break a 3 week plateau. I listened to her and did what she advised. I feel as if I finally have the formula that works for me. Its not a magic bullet as I have deceived myself so many times before, but it is something that is attainable with consistency. No other program that I know of gives this much attention and service to all of the people on this journey. You know, I think we all started out somewhat “broken” and through the tools that have been put in place; we supported each other to heal some of our wounds. I noticed that within the last 4 weeks, the group took on a life of its own without the dependence of our trainers to get us talking and communicating. That is completely different than any other program. I am really going to miss this group and can’t wait to hear everyone’s story and see fabulous pictures of success!
7 What results and benefits have you experienced in the Total Transformation Contest?
I am different. I have learned that there truly isn’t a magic pill that you can take to lose weight. I have learned, more than anything, that consistency in my nutrition and exercise will bring results. It may not happen in my time, but God’s time. And, I am learning patience with myself. I have learned to forgive myself for falling off track, because all I have to do is make the right choices at my next meal and start moving!! I sleep amazing now and I have so much energy throughout the entire day. I am no longer dozing off at 4pm. At the beginning of January I was not able to run a mile. By the end of February, I ran a 5K without stopping. I never thought I would be able to do that again. I have lost 15.6 pounds and 17 inches!!! I lost 4 pounds on the 24-day challenge and 11.6 more since then. And, I know that I am stronger, both physically and mentally.
8 What would you say to anyone looking at joining or trying the Total

Transformation Contest?
If you want to get Fit, feel better physically and emotionally, the TTC is the program for you. Don’t question it, just do it. Follow the Program.

The Get You In Shape team hand selects clients each month that we feel have transformed their health and fitness. Beth Faught lives in Coppell, TX with her husband, Damon, and 5 year-old daughter, Hayden. She is a Division Manager at CROSSMARK, in Plano, TX, managing the Hill’s Pet Nutrition account. She joined Get You In Shape in May 2014.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? I was at a point where I was paying for a gym membership, and not using it. I love the outdoors, and have never really been a big fan of gyms – therefore I could never convince myself to go! When I heard about this outdoor bootcamp from my friend, Amanda Glassey, I knew it sounded like something I would enjoy. Plus, she was toning up and looking more fit every time I saw her – which definitely piqued my interest! I also really liked the idea of working out with others as a community. We hold each other accountable, and it makes the workouts more fun.

Beth convinced her father-in-law, Billy, to join Get You In Shape. Now they both enjoy working out together.
Beth convinced her father-in-law, Billy, to join Get You In Shape. Now they both enjoy working out together.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program? I’ve played sports my entire life, but after college my activity level reduced dramatically. Between work, travel, and a little one at home, I never made time for exercise. And, as I mentioned, the gym membership was just going to waste. Work was becoming more stressful, my energy level was low, and my weight was creeping up. I desperately needed a change.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program? After my first week with GYIS I knew I had made the right decision in signing up. It felt so good to be challenged again. It even felt good to have sore muscles again! After the first month, I definitely noticed a difference in my health. My stress level was reducing, my energy level increased, and exercising was becoming a normal part of my routine. Now, going to bootcamp, or going for a run on my off-days, has become my favorite part of the day. I still have a long way to go to achieve my weight-loss goals, but I am confident knowing GYIS will be there for support along the way.
Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?

The My Fitness Pal app has been really beneficial in keeping my nutrition on track. It’s very eye-opening how fast those calories can add up. It’s really helped me to make smarter nutritional decisions. Also, planning my meals ahead of time has been key. We get so busy throughout the day, it’s really easy to grab something quick and un-healthy, but planning each meal the night before has made a huge difference.

Map My Run is my favorite app! I especially love that you can add friends, and see their activity. I have friends all over Texas that like to run, and are training for 10ks or half-marathons. Seeing their progress keeps me motivated.

Posting my off-day work-outs on the GYIS Facebook page has also been really motivational. It holds me accountable. Knowing you have to post your workouts, is a sure-fire way to get you off the couch!
Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? The GYIS program is by far above and beyond any other program I have tried. And, that’s not for lack of trying many other programs to lose weight, and get healthy – I’ve tried Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers (twice), as well as various other “quick-fix” diets. I’ve had little success with other programs, mainly due to always expecting to lose weight overnight, and getting frustrated and losing interest early on. In joining GYIS, exercise and eating right has become part of my life. There is no gimmick, or quick solution, and while it has taken me years to realize this – I am excited about this new health journey I have begun. Between the best-in-class trainers and the community support – nothing beats this program.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program? Since joining GYIS I have seen a dramatic difference in my confidence. It feels good knowing I am doing something to better my health. My energy level has greatly increased as well, which means I can keep up with my 5 year old! I recently convinced my father-in-law, Billy Faught, to join GYIS, so we have the benefit of working out together motivating each other. Above all, I am healthier and happier!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program? I would say, if you are feeling intimidated – do not be. This program is for the fit, and not so fit. There is no discrimination, as long as you have the will to finish what you started.

If you are concerned about the cost – do not be. You receive the benefits of personal training for a lot less. The trainers constantly provide individual support, including tips on how to properly exercise and correct your form so you gain the most benefit from every workout. It’s worth every penny.

Coppell Trainer Spotlight of the Month Jim and Kelly

JamesbeforeAfter500

KellyDarkBeforeAfter500

The Get You In Shape team hand selects client each month that we feel have Transformed their health and fitness. The Get You In Shape Spotlight clients for July certainly have made HUGE strides in their first 8 weeks of the Get You In Shape program. Check it out below.

Question #1 : Name, what you do, and where do you live?

My name is Jim Dark, I am a Junior High History Teacher in Arlington, and I live in Coppell.

My name is Kelly Dark, I am Commercial Insurance Broker and I live in Coppell, TX with my husband and our 17 year old daughter.

Question #2: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?

Answer from Jim: Kelly and I had been working on losing weight, mainly diet alone for several months, starting in August of 2013. We had seen the boot camp program workouts on a few Saturday mornings when we were walking in Andy Brown Park. We got inspired at a Weight Watchers meeting by a member who had seen dramatic results by increasing her activity level. So we got to thinking about doing that. We joined the aquatic center, and tried several different classes. They were all right, but not really what we were looking for. We just got to talking one evening about checking out a boot camp program, and knew that there was one in the area. We literally just googled “Boot Camp Coppell” and there you were.

Answer from Kelly : My husband and I tried various forms of activity from simply walking to Zumba to acquacize to circuit training. All seemed either boring, required an extreme amount of coordination or were just plain intimidating with only one level – expert – available. GYIS offers many fitness levels, you can go at your own pace, do alternate exercises if one is too hard or not right for your body’s needs, the workouts are never boring, and strengthens weaknesses such as lack of coordination rather than requiring top skill right up front. I also read 25 reviews on Google going back 4 months to years ago and they all said the same thing – this program is great, they lost weight, the instructors were friendly and encouraging, they were never bored. I figured 25 people all saying the same thing can’t be wrong.

Question #3:What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?

Answer from Jim: As a teacher, I lead a pretty active lifestyle, but I still needed to achieve the weight loss goals I had set for myself. I lost weight, using diet alone for a few months, but then got stuck at about 163, which was 8 pounds higher than the goal I had set for myself of 155. I spent about 12 weeks see-sawing back and forth over that number before we decided to start the Get You in Shape Program.

Answer from Kelly :I was psuedo sedentary… as I mentioned before we tried various activities but never enjoyed anything enough to do it regulary or continually.

Question #4: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?

Answer from Jim: We attended our first session on April 14, 2014. It was a little intimidating for me at first. I’m a veteran, so I’ve been to a REAL BOOT CAMP. But it was a far cry from what I expected. The staff is supportive, and encouraging. They also offer a series of ways to increase the intensity of each exercise, so a newcomer can come into a workout, and adjust down to their level of fitness, while those who have been at it for a while can increase to a level that they need to meet their goals. It’s very flexible, and the staff is wonderful.

Answer from Kelly : I joined 8 weeks ago and from the beginning I found everyone to be friendly, encouraging, the workouts were and are still difficult. But, you want to feel like you got a good work out, right? It felt like and still feels like a group personal training session. I can always ask for help if I am not doing an exercise correctly and I always appreciate the individual instruction I get when I think I am doing an exercise correctly but really am not. The program as a whole is well run and organized.

Question #5: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?

Kelly: One thing about this program that I liked was that some of the tools utilized were tools I was already using such as tracking food, eating six small meals a day, being accountable for getting in workouts. I may not use the Get You In Shape tools that are available through the program as I track through a different site and I use my Outlook calendar for making sure I get to workouts, but Get You In Shape‘s tools and beliefs about fitness and nutrition fit with what I believe thus making it very easy to keep it up and maintain for what I see as a lifetime.

Question #6: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? What makes Get you In Shape different or unique?

Answer from Jim: My first impression about what makes it unique is how the exercises are mixed up so much. Every workout is a challenge, because you rarely do the same exercise in any single week. You definitely don’t settle into a routine, which is what makes a lot of people give up on exercise plans. You go to boot camp every time knowing it will be different, and every time, you get presented a new challenge to conquer.
Answer from Kelly: I haven’t tried another “boot camp” but this program is different from all other forms of activity I have tried in that we do many different things, it never gets boring. The group environment is great with encouragement, laughter and a common feeling that we all DID IT!! The personal trainers all help us make sure we get the most with each movement so that we feel the exercise how and where we should feel it which you don’t get from the regular group exercises such as zumba or acquicize.

Question #7: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?

Jim: I’m a former Army officer, so I was used to judging my fitness in terms of pushups, situps and a timed two mile run. When I started, I could barely knock out 10 pushups from the toes. Within just a little over a month, I was doing Pushups for Charity, and did 44 pushups in 90 seconds. My last timed mile run, I did in 7:40, which is the fastest I have run a mile in 17 years.

Once I started the program, I very quickly hit my goal weight of 155, and settled into a maintenance routine designed to turn my remaining body fat into muscle. And it’s working. I am holding my current weight, but the twice monthly measurements are showing me that my body weight is changing from fat to muscle.

Very quickly, I’ve lost 5 pounds during the program, but I’ve lost nearly nine inches my body measurements, which proves to me that I am turning fat into muscle. I’m also easily fitting into clothes that have been hanging in the back of my closet for two years.

But most important to me was my overall health. I had seen my family doctor in January and I had a number of blood screening issues that were troublesome, as well as work-related stress and anxiety issues. I went back in early June, after about six weeks of Boot Camp, and had a complete physical. I ended up with doctor telling me how much healthier I was than six months before. I was no longer taking two medications I had been taking daily. My blood pressure had dropped from Pre-Hypertension to very healthy, and my heart rate had dropped significantly.

Get You In Shape has pumped me up and motivated me to look into doing a Beginner’s Triathlon, and when I mentioned this to my doctor, his response was “Go for it!”

Overall, I feel like I am in the best shape of my life, including when I was a 33-year-old Army officer. I am really looking forward to continuing with the program and seeing where it can take me.

 Kelly: In 8 weeks’ time,
I have only lost 3 pounds but I have lost 14.25 inches overall in 8 weeks. HOLY COW – 2 1/2″ in my chest, 2 1/4″ in my waist, 2 1/2″ in my hips, 1 1/2″ in each leg and each arm. In EIGHT WEEKs I have gone from a size 12 to a size 8. I have been on the Weight Watchers plan for 8 months, not weeks, for diet alone and have not lost this many inches.

As for my health this program has reduced my stress level at work, I love the outlet it provides along with the camaraderie with the other participants. My blood pressure is proof of this as I was pre-hypertension in April and now am in normal range. This program has also helped me sleep through the night and wake up feeling rested and ready to go.

Question #8: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?

Jim: If I had to describe this program in one word, I would say “TRANSFORMATIONAL.” The mix of activities makes a world of difference in achieving results.

I would also tell anyone looking at this program to not be intimidated by the words “Boot Camp.” It is all adjusted so that a newcomer can fit in nicely. You can do what you are capable of, even if that isn’t much, and you won’t be criticized. The staff is polite and encouraging, and everyone of them takes part in the daily workouts at some point. They will do exactly what they are asking you to do at some point during the day. They lead by example, which is significant to me. More importantly, you will never be expected to do more than your best.

Finally, I would say that one of the things that I loved about being in the Army was the camaraderie. I miss that a lot, but I found it again when I joined Get You In Shape. Within just a few days, I found myself both giving and receiving some friendly give-and-take, making friends, and encouraging each other to keep moving forward.

Melissa Evans – 15 lbs. in 4 months

1 Name, what you do, and where do you live? My name is Melissa Evans, I live here in Coppell and I am a “stay at home” mom who volunteers alot.

2 Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? My neighbor invited me to “Bring a Friend” week. I really liked the program, and since my weight was at an all time high (as high as it was during pregnancy), I thought this would get me into better habits.

Melissa Evans Before After picture

3 What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program? I was reasonably good at exercise before GYIS, but would let other things get in the way. I aimed for 3 times per week, and if I did that it was a good exercise week. Realistically, I averaged twice a week.

4 What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program? First week, month, etc The first week was very impressive, especially at 5:30 am. I liked how the trainers would show you different ways to do an exercise for the varied abilities. The trainers and other participants were so encouraging. Still is my impression after almost 5 months.

5 What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you? I love My Fitness Pal, and it probably works well because I also used the recommended meal plan in the GYIS packet. Having the small snacks with protein helps you feel fuller longer.

6. How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? Or What makes Get you In Shape different or unique? I like how each day of exercise at GYIS is different but familiar. It has the variety of workouts so that it does not get routine. The information on what to do if you are out of town, is a great tool. I also like the contests they have, the 100 mile challenge has really helped me be more consistent in my off day cardio. The positive encouragement, while maybe not a tool, does keep you coming back.

7 What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program? I have lost 15 lbs in 4 months. I feel healthier, and I am doing a better job of working out, not letting other things get in the way. My habits have improved, they are not perfect, but improved. When I first started GYIS, trying to run around the pavilion seemed like a long way around there, now not so much!

8 What would you say to anyone looking at this program? I would tell anyone looking at this program, you can do it, no matter what shape you are in. IT WORKS!

Darla Jo Manning

My name is Darla Jo Manning. I live in Coppell with my husband and teenage son, and I work full-time at a desk job in my home. My get-healthy journey started in November, 2006. I was in my mid-40’s and wanted to get fit before 50. I joined a women’s fitness class right before Thanksgiving. I lost a few pounds, started a diet and then in March, 2007, I had a devastating setback. My colon perforated, I had to have emergency surgery and two more surgeries over the next year or so. A couple of years later, I started getting serious about my health goals again. I bought a bicycle and started riding a little farther and a little farther each day. In June, I had an accident and broke my ankle very badly. I had surgery in June and another in August. In September, I started taking my first steps without crutches. I also started a very strict diet. If I could lose weight, it would be easier on my ankle. In October, the colon perforated again. I had three more abdominal surgeries over the next 15 months.

At various times through those years, I started counting calories or joined the Y or walked the dogs. I tried things on my own to lose weight and get healthy, but it was always one step forward and one step back. I had one month of Get You In Shape boot camp in 2008, but had to stop because of an injury.

In April, this year, I got an email from Brad. “Darla Jo, we miss you”… It mentioned a 28-day Kick Start Program and “personal training in a group environment”. “Personal” is exactly what I needed. After six abdominal surgeries, a broken ankle and two surgeries for that over a 5 year period, I felt like there were so many injuries, scars and weaknesses in my body that I did not know how to fix it on my own. I was overweight, tired and struggling to keep up. I truly needed advice, guidance and someone who would show me how to work with what I had. I wanted to be stronger and to feel better. At the client consultation meeting, I told the Get You In Shape trainers, “not only is my body broken, but my head is too. I feel like every time I start trying to get fit, something devastating happens to me.” I was afraid to start, but I was also excited.

At that meeting, Brad recommended MyFitness Pal for food and exercise tracking. I downloaded it immediately and have logged every meal every day since. I love it. It has truly changed the way my husband and I manage our nutrition. It is easy to find nutrition information for almost everything I’ve searched for. It keeps a running total all day long. It helps me make decisions about how much I want to use for a serving so I can plan as I go and I can see that bottom line number at a glance.

The first few weeks of the Get You In Shape boot camp were very difficult and a joy at the same time. I really enjoyed the encouragement from both the trainers and the other Get You In Shape boot camp participants. I had trouble with certain movements because my ankle doesn’t work right. The trainers would always offer advice on how to do the exercise with good form but slight modifications. I came home exhausted, but that exhausted feeling only lasted a couple of weeks. Soon, I noticed I would get home from boot camp and still feel great and ready to tackle something else. Seeing such a big improvement in such a short time really fueled my desire to keep working.

In June, I was offered the opportunity to visit Get You In Shape Cardio Club. Just try it out. “Run? Ha ha, I can’t run. The ankle doctor told me so.” But, I could walk.

After that first visit, I joined the next week. I was so proud the first time I jogged past the lake and then again when I ran a whole mile without stopping. I was ecstatic when I got my first three “mile bands” all at once. Now, I can run for three miles without stopping. Who knows how far I will be able to go next year.
Darla Jo Before After Picture 2 600

It is hard for me to choose a favorite tool or benefit of the program. There are several that all work together. The trainers are awesome in so many ways. Myfitnesspal helps me out with my nutrition. Boot camp and cardio club are making me stronger and more flexible and they burn calories so I can eat and lose weight. When I have to skip a boot camp for travel or illness, I really do miss it. There have been a variety of challenges offered and those always keep things interesting and provide an added motivation: 24-Day Challenge, Arm or Squats challenges, team and individual challenges.

The Get You In Shape program has changed my life in many ways. I have new confidence, new energy and new optimism. I feel like I’m part of a fitness community and I love that. I have new friends I enjoy and who I would not have met otherwise.

I’m very proud of the results I’ve achieved since starting in April.

I’ve committed to journaling my food as a way of staying on track with my nutrition and the calories in/out.

When I started, I was not able to run all the way around the block. Now, I can run three miles.

I’ve lost 34.5 pounds and over 24 inches.

Leigh Walker

My name is Leigh Walker, I live in Coppell, and I have been in the GYIS program for 9 months.

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I was considered borderline obese, I was frustrated and sad and felt like I would never be able to lose weight. And if I did lose a few pounds, I was pretty sure I would just gain in back. I was randomly trying to work out at the gym and not really getting any results. I had gone from liking my body-during my pregnancies, I was just amazed at what my body was doing-that it could grow these babies! But before Get You In Shape, I was beginning to feel like my body was working against me-that it didn’t matter what I did, I was never going to lose weight.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?

I wanted to change my body, and I thought Get You In Shape was a good start. It was my 40th birthday, so it seemed like a good time to try and change my life.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
I was a little shy, but never intimidated. The trainers were wonderful, and after the first week, I already felt better about myself.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?

The 6 Week Challenge has absolutely been amazing. I was too shy to do the first Biggest Winner Challenge when I first joined-I thought I should just focus on going to class. And then the Biggest Winner Challenge looked really fun, and I regretted not doing it. So when they announced the 6 Week Challenge, I was really excited! Without a doubt, the camaraderie, accountability, and support I have gotten from my team and Get You In Shape community have helped me reach some of my hardest fitness goals.

I also really like the Perfect Attendance recognition and prizes. It motivates me to not miss!

I also did the 10 Day Cleanse, which was pretty much fabulous. I lost 6 pounds, and doing the cleanse bumped me off my plateau and made me refocus on my nutrition. I just can’t believe I am still losing weight!

The Get You In Shape facebook page and posts have inspired me-the recipes, tips, and pictures of other people’s healthy meals have helped me so much.

Get You In Shape Cardio Club! I was absolutely petrified of Cardio Club when I first tried it. I thought that it would be too hard and that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with everyone else. I shouldn’t have been scared-just like Boot Camp, everyone was so supportive, and the workouts are planned so that everyone can go at their own pace. I can’t believe I have come to enjoy running!

And of course, the Get You In Shape trainers. These wonderful, beautiful, fit people that have walked with me all the way on my weight-loss/fitness journey. They are so helpful, authentic, knowledgeable and amazing examples of healthy and fit people.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
Wow, there are so many things! First, I love working out outside. And that is saying something, since we worked out during the heat of the summer and now the wind of the fall. I feel so connected to nature and the seasons. Does that sound silly? Working out outside is just good for my soul. I just don’t think I could ever go back to an elliptical or treadmill inside of a gym.

I love the people. I knew everyone would be nice, but I didn’t realize how much working out in a community would help me. First of all, I enjoy seeing the people in my class-it is a community of friends. And then seeing other people transform their bodies! It has been just amazing to see the people around me lose weight and get fit. And everyone is so supportive and encouraging!

And I love the workouts. There is a little bit of everything. And I like how the workouts change every month-it keeps it interesting.
Leigh Before After Picture 600

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
Well, I am at my lowest weight in a decade. In a decade! Since before I was pregnant with my 9 year old. I never thought when I started 9 months ago, that I would actually lose this much weight.

I am almost ready to call myself a runner. 🙂

Before GYIS, I thought it would be great if I could run a 5K: now, I just decided to run a half marathon in February.

I am not sad and frustrated with my body. I don’t grimace when I see pictures or catch a glimpse of myself in a window. I feel like myself again. Wow. My eyes just kind of teared up. I hadn’t really thought about it like that. I feel so grateful to Get You In Shape for making this happen. I don’t think I thought I would ever really like my body again. And now I feel like I can reach any fitness goal I set for myself.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
I was having my blood pressure taken at that cardiologist fair/expo, and the person taking my blood pressure said, “Wow. Your blood pressure is very good.” And then she said, “Oh, it’s because you are an athlete.”
And I was shocked. I haven’t thought of myself as an athlete since high school, and I definitely don’t think I’ve looked athletic in quite a while. So that was just this amazing, unexpected moment where I realized I really have changed my body-on the inside and out.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
I’ve made new friends, which I love. I feel more connected to my Coppell community, which is wonderful. For example, just this weekend, I was running at the park with another friend and passed another Get You In Shape client, Paul and Stella dog, out walking. Just that little “Hey, great job, don’t stop!” from Paul was just this positive little interaction. I love that happening around town. I love being a part of this healthy, supportive fitness community.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
First of all, my results are because of the Get You in Shape program.
I lost 10% of my body weight in the first 6 months of starting GYIS.

I am continuing to lose weight-25 pounds and counting.
I’ve lost over 12 inches so far.
I am at my lowest weight for 10 years. A decade!! Since before I got pregnant with my second child, who is now 9!
My blood pressure is good (95/75). This is saying something, since I was on bedrest for the last month of my pregnancy with my last baby with high blood pressure.
I have shaved almost 3 minutes off my mile time. When I started, I had to run/walk the mile. Now my 5K pace is faster than my beginning mile pace.
I can run 6 miles. I have never been able to do that in my life.
I am happier, healthier and more confident. That might sound like a cliche, but it is so true! Thank you Get You In Shape!!

 Lotta Meyer

My name is Lise-Lott Meyer but most know me as Lotta. I’m a registered nurse specialized in electrophysiology and a figure skating coach. I’m married to Mark (also a fellow boot camper). In a few months we will have been together for 27 years and we have three kids 19, 17 and 12. We moved to Coppell 4 years ago from Sweden.

The last years in Sweden I had started gaining a lot of weight and I had several health issues. After moving to the U.S. and discovering the convenience of fast food and using the car to go everywhere it got even worse quickly. I don’t remember how we found out about the Get You In Shape boot camp but luckily we did! We first joined in the spring of 2010. The whole family was going to the Get You In Shape boot camp that summer. Even our kids who were used to very hard figure skating on and off ice training thought they got a seriously good workout. This is when I did my first 24 day Challenge. I saw really good results real fast and started losing weight and gaining strength. Unfortunately I got sick and I was told not to continue working out so I stopped going. Big mistake! I should have just modified everything and gone just to go and get out of the house. Instead I did no training and gained back all the weight and some more. I was in constant pain and on all kinds of medications. I did get a little bit better and started a new job in Dallas. The 8 hour work days turned into 16 hours every day and we never had lunch breaks but always catered unhealthy food to grab when you ran by. I knew I was in bad shape and constantly gaining but not until I happened to see a photo of myself that a family member had taken did I realize I needed to change.

I started working out on my own using what I had learned from Get You In Shape before and got out my 24 day challenge cookbook. I used Advocare shakes when I could not eat lunch at work and started cooking healthy meals when at home. First I saw fast results but then it slowed down. I knew I needed more accountability and the group feeling that I missed from the Get You In Shape community to keep me motivated. I decided to go back to the Get You In Shape boot camp even if my work made me miss many workouts. After just one workout I could tell how different it was to challenge your muscles in a new way instead of always doing the same routine at the gym. I love the Get You In Shape community, family feeling that I get when I’m at the Get You In Shape boot camp. The first day I returned to Get You In Shape boot camp I immediately felt welcomed back and the trainers remembered me and my family by names even. It made it feel very personal and welcoming. I also really like that the workouts are right for everyone no matter what fitness level you are at the moment, because if you keep going your fitness level will change. The trainers can help you modify your workout if you need to for any reason and they can help you make it harder to push yourself to your limits if that’s what you want.

After rejoining Get You In Shape I also got committed to the Advocare 24 Day Challenge program and had great results both in the numbers (weight and measurements) and how I felt. I have never felt better emotionally and physically at the same time. I’m now pretty much at my goal weight and I’m feeling confident that with the help of Get You In Shape and my new life style I will be able to maintain. I use every challenge and contest they do as a tool to continue to keep myself accountable and to not forget it’s not a temporary fix but a lifelong lifestyle choice. Everybody at the Get You In Shape boot camp is very encouraging and is quick to give compliments. There is no feeling of jealousy when someone is having good results instead everyone shares the joy of a fellow boot campers good results whether it is on the scale or a new mile time.
Lotta Before After Picture 600

Being part of the Get You In Shape community have changed my life in so many ways that I almost feel silly to list them all. Basically I was feeling really bad about myself and had no confidence and now I’m feeling better than I ever have. I have met some really nice people at the Get You In Shape boot camp that I’m proud to call my friends. Recently when my son asked me if I wished I was younger I could honestly tell him “No, I feel great being closer to 50 than 40 and way better than I ever felt in my 20’s”.

My proudest “Get You In Shape moment” was when I completed my first swim lesson that Get You In Shape trainer Julie McCan arranged to get a group of us ready for a triathlon sprint race. The week before the first swim lesson she took time to meet me at the pool to help me get my face under water. Before then I had only swam breast stroke with my face over the water surface. I’m still far from a swimmer but I’m confident enough to take part in the triathlon Sprints, something I had always wanted to do but never done because I was such a bad swimmer. Now I know I can continue to learn and become a better swimmer and I can enjoy the tri races. Of course reaching my goal weight and getting comments and questions about how good I look now also feels pretty good, but nothing feels better than just not feeling bad anymore. I love sharing what has helped me reach my goals and hope I can help others reach their goals.

Other ways that it has affected my life is that I now feel more confident teaching on the ice again when I can move easier and I’m proud of what I have accomplished. I started coaching more and decided to take a break from my nursing job so I would have more time to concentrate on my health and fitness.

I feel that I owe a huge part of the success of me reaching my fitness goals to “Get you in Shape”. Without them I would never been sitting here confident enough to be writing about how good I feel after loosing 50 lbs and becoming fit and confident enough to do triathlons. Thank you, Brad, Cynthia and all the amazing trainers at “Get you in Shape”. And last but not least I want to say thank you to my husband Mark who always supports me along the way.

 Hal Armstrong

I’m Hal Armstrong and I’m a small business loan underwriter for JP Morgan Chase Bank. I live in Coppell, TX and have been in the Get You In Shape program for 9 months since February 2013

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
Health-wise, I knew it was time to take some action to at least begin to lose some weight and improve my health, fitness, and nutrition after years of doing little to no exercise and eating whatever and whenever I wanted. My doctor had been telling me for the last few years that I needed to lose weight and while my intentions to do so were good, I didn’t really seriously follow through with his admonitions. I was just more discouraged with myself at every annual physical.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?

I had seen Get You In Shape participants working out at Andy Brown Park in Coppell in the past as well as having seen their advertisements on cars around town, etc. I even remember getting their printed material at the Coppell 4th of July parade in 2012 and thinking that it would be a good program to join. So, of course, being a procrastinator, I didn’t start investigating the program until 6 months later in January 2013. I knew I had to do something if I wanted to lose weight since I lacked motivation to really do anything myself.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
The first few sessions were a slap in the face to me and a wake up call. I could barely do any of the exercises at all, much less the number of repetition the others in the class were doing. Some exercises I couldn’t do at all because of lack of endurance, strength, and flexibility. I must say after the first week I was in some pretty significant pain (not just soreness) as my unused muscles, tendons and ligaments were screaming at me. I knew the only way it was going to stop hurting was to either quit then or keep going. I probably would have quit had not the trainers been so encouraging to do what I could. I also came to the conclusion that my doing something, regardless of the amount or intensity was better than doing nothing. I was also inspired by the other participants who were working really hard as well but were not at all judgmental. I saw them struggling and sweating as well and the fact that they kept showing up morning after morning gave me motivation. I knew they were hurting and sore too so there is some camaraderie in that shared feeling.
One of the most helpful things with Get You In Shape has been the way I have been treated by the trainers. It was surprising that the folks knew me by name and would greet me at every session. Their direction has always been encouraging and I have never felt embarrassed for what I couldn’t do. I feel that their personal touch probably has made a huge impact on my success and desire to keep coming back to see if I could do better.

Hal Before After Picture 600What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
I think the ability to go at whatever pace I could do initially helped a lot. As I improved over time, I was able to do more and actually keep up with the class. The different exercises were confusing at first but the trainers took the time to patiently explain the exercise and correct my bad form. I also think I benefited from the number of different exercises from week to week as it kept the sessions interesting.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
I like the flexibility in the program knowing it is whatever you want it to be. By that I mean it is flexible to whatever goals you set for yourself and the trainers are always encouraging you to try to attain your goals. Within the program the trainers are the key as far as I’m concerned. Without their support I wouldn’t have been able to attain the results I have. Anyone can get a list of exercises to do and buy their own slam balls but it wouldn’t be as nearly as effective as having trainers to lead a group and keep things organized and moving while also motivating you. I also like that there are all levels of participants and I don’t feel like I’m a second class citizen when I’m around the more accomplished athletes. It truly is for everybody. Getting to see familiar faces and people who I’m lucky enough to call friends has really been a blessing to me.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I’ve been able to improve my fitness and am able to do a lot of things I didn’t think I was capable of doing. That has not only helped me physically but also mentally as my confidence is definitely higher. I’ve improved my lifestyle as far as eating and exercising. Due to my weight loss, my health has also improved.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
A. The day I was able to run a mile the whole way was a giant accomplishment for me. I remember being so happy I was able to do that. The first week I started, as part of a warm up, we had to run to the bridge and back. No big deal, I thought until I started fading about halfway to the bridge. I had to walk coming back and felt really bad about myself. The first time we ran the mile for time, I walked more than half of it and was spent at the end. So running the whole mile was such a confidence builder for me.

B. One of the goals I set for myself at the beginning was being able to run a 5K in an event. Get You In Shape personal trainer, Kristi, was encouraging me when I set that goal and said “you can totally do that.” The initial confidence she expressed in me was great. I was finally able to do that which was extremely satisfying, especially knowing where I came from. My wife and son were there to support me and after I finished I saw Chaney and Kathy who were finishing up a Saturday session. I was so happy and giddy as a school girl.

C. At some point during the process of losing weight and showing some results, my children told me at separate times that they were proud of me. I will always remember them saying that. I really never would have imagined ever hearing that, it was truly touching. Those of you with teen age and college age children will understand.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
It may seem like a little thing to most people but I really like the feeling that my clothes aren’t incredibly tight. I also really like the ability to buy clothes without having to keep increasing sizes and feeling embarrassed when I realize that I’ve gone up in size.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?

I was tired of the way I looked, upset that my clothes fit so tight, and a little afraid and frustrated that my health was in a borderline diabetic situation. I thought I needed to try SOMETHING because what I was doing (or not doing) was making no difference. So I thought I’d at least give Get You In Shape a try for at least 90 days to see if there could be any changes.

As hard as I was working, I wasn’t seeing a lot of results initially but wasn’t sure what to exactly expect or how quickly. I kept telling myself that I’d made a commitment to do this at least 90 days and see how it worked out. In the first month I lost 6 pounds which was quite an achievement as far as I was concerned. It had been quite a while since I’d lost any weight at all so it gave me more motivation to stick with it. About this time I started the Advocare 24 day challenge to see how that would work, especially in conjunction with GYIS. Changing my nutrition was really a catalyst as I was able to see more results in my weight as well as how my clothes fit. After 2 months of Get You In Shape and a month of the Advocare and nutrition change, I had lost 18 pounds. The results were very uplifting for me mentally, since I had entered the program with a lot of misgivings and uneasiness. Also I was able to do more during the sessions, being able to do some of the exercises that I couldn’t do at all and do more repetitions than what I was able to do initially. In August I started going to Cardio Club to try to improve my stamina, get me over a fitness plateau and prepare me better for my goal of doing a 5K in October. Cardio Club has really upped my fitness and improved my running ability and stamina.
I’m now at the 9 month mark. I’ve lost over 50 pounds and over 24 inches. I went to my annual physical recently and my doctor was very pleased with what I’ve accomplished and has taken me off the cholesterol medicine I was on, decreased the blood pressure medicine to half of what was prescribed, and will probably be completely off all cholesterol and blood pressure medications in 3 more months. I was shocked when the doctor said this since I assumed I would be on these medications for the rest of my life. So I feel better, I look better, my body is healthier, and my mental health and confidence is high. I know none of that would have happened had I not joined Get You In Shape 9 months ago, pure and simple. On top of that, I’ve got to meet and know a lot of new people (trainers and campers) that I’m lucky enough to consider friends. I don’t know what more I or anyone else could ever ask for in a program.

 Stan Guinn

I’m Stan Guinn. I own a small technology consulting firm in Lewisville. We handle support, sales and maintenance on computers, servers, networks, and IP/SIP phone systems. I am happily married to Jan and between us we have three daughters and five grandkids. I’ve lived in Texas pretty much all my life. Currently live in Highland Village near Lewisville Lake. I started Get You In Shape in January of 2013 by cashing in a Groupon. I sat out February and realized I actually really missed coming to the Get You In Shape Boot Camp sessions. So I started back the first of March.

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
Before Get You In Shape I was suffering from all the normal old age syndromes. I was overweight. My stamina was nominal, strength was minimal. Walking any distance was a challenge. Health check-ups at my doctor’s wasn’t going well. He was highly encouraging me to lose weight and get more exercise.

Why did you decide to join Get You In Shape?
I had been working with my doctor attempting several approaches to help me lose weight and get in better shape for health reasons. I saw a Groupon for a free month and thought it looked like a great opportunity to get in shape. He told me about how the Boot Camp worked. About the importance of accountability, having goals, and having support to accomplish those goals. I agreed with him, so I decided to sign up.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
I was very excited from the very first session. I felt Get You In Shape was exactly what I needed to keep me focused and motivated to accomplish my goals. The trainers were all supportive and encouraging. Their positive, “Can Do” attitude was inspiring and motivating. The other Get You In Shape boot campers were all so friendly and helpful. I really wasn’t very good at many of the exercises at first and I can’t express enough how much I appreciated everyone’s patience and support.
Stan Before After Picture 600
What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?

The favorite tool both my wife and I started using at Brad’s recommendation was the myfitnesspal.com web and mobile apps. Learning about the amount of calories in various foods and how to make decisions about the calories I want to consume for any particular day was an incredible eye opener. I feel more in control of my diet than ever before. I found the Get You In Shape blog to be a valuable source of health and nutrition information, as well as a great source of motivation from success stories. Seeing all the other campers working hard and enjoying boot camp on Facebook has been priceless. More than any of that, the support, caring and inspiration of everyone involved with the Get You In Shape boot camp, trainers, other boot campers, Brad and Cynthia, has been the most valuable part of the Get You In Shape boot camp experience.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
I’ve tried several approaches to lose weight and get healthy. Health clubs I tended to lose interest in after a few months. Workout videos were fun. About half way through one I find myself sitting on the couch eating ice cream cheering the trainer on..”you go guy, I’ll catch up to you in a minute”. Walks around the neighborhood were good. Doing anything is better than doing nothing. But now, in retrospect, I can see how I am capable of so much more. And that’s what sets GYIS ahead and apart from other programs. The structure, support, and motivation to be accountable encouraged me to push myself to accomplish more.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life? How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
The biggest change for me has been a change to more health choices. One major hurdle to overcome was changing ingrained habits. Out of habit at lunch time, I would go to Wendy’s and order a ½ pound double meat burger with cheese and a large fries. As I started to adjust my life style, I would still order all that, but only eat half of it. Then I realized I was only ordering it out of “habit”. So I changed the habit. First I stared ordering smaller portions. I started ordering fruit cups instead of fries. Then I realized I didn’t need to go to Wendy’s at all. I was going there out of habit. So I began looking around and that opened up a whole new world to me that I hadn’t seen because I was living so much of my life through habits. One day recently I said, “Look at those umbrellas in front of that restaurant”. My wife said, “They’ve always been there”. But I had never noticed. That restaurant wasn’t on my list on habits, so it didn’t get noticed. Now, I’m challenging habits. And I am waking up each day in a whole new world. In order to get healthy and stay healthy, we have to make changes. I’ve been amazed by how rewarding the “process” of change has been.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
My proudest moment was in the middle of a mile run when I realized I could actually take control of my life. I can exercise and eat right. I can make the life style changes, get healthy and stay healthy.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
I have achieved many positive results and health benefits from my experience at the Get You In Shape Boot Camp. Since I started full time in Feb., I’ve lost a total of 33lbs. and about 17inches. I’m the smallest I have been since I graduated high school.

The first time I ran a mile at Get You In Shape, it took me 18:59 to get through it. And I can’t express enough my appreciation to the trainers for waiting for me so I could actually have a time to record. My most recent mile was 10:44. At my age, 63, that’s pretty incredible that I can run a mile at all. Much less that I did it in sub 11 time. The first time I tried to run a 5k, I pulled something in my leg and could hardly walk for a month. Now I regularly run 3 miles in times as low as 35 mins.

Before boot camp, my fasting blood sugar in the morning was averaging 105-110, pre-diabetes range. Now it’s 82-85, normal.

My pants size has dropped from 40-42in waist down to a 34in waist. I can now shop at Target and walk around the store normal and upright without leaning on the cart like it was a walker. I have the strength and stamina to mow my lawn. And best of all, my wife thinks I’m hot.

Karen Hunt

I am Karen Hunt and I am a wife, mom, the Market President at Frost Bank in Coppell, volunteer and Mayor of the fair City of Coppell. We have lived in Coppell for about 17 years. Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, I attended Southern Methodist University and never went back.

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I seemed to be gaining 10 pounds each decade and I had to stop the madness. For years, I was walking every day with our dog and thinking I was “active”. Realistically, it was not enough to make a dent. I tried a couple of fad diets – it did not stick. My clothes did not fit well – I was choosing baggy clothes (I called them “comfortable”). I had little core or upper body strength. I did not sleep well. Letting others dictate my menus – My eating habits were poor nearly every day.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?
Ultimately, my friend and neighbor, Julie McCan, was a strong influence. Watching her growing passion for the program and her success made me want to try it….but there was always something that was my excuse. I broke my wrist. I twisted my ankle. My schedule was too hectic to commit…. I was still using excuses.

Becoming a “public figure”, my picture was everywhere. I did not like what I saw. This realization, along with the fact I saw my mother at her grandchild’s wedding, made me think…… Am I going to see my potential grandchildren get married? What do I need to change in my life? The time for change was now.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
The first day – I felt very welcomed. Trainers and participants were helpful and encouraging. During the first couple of weeks, just getting through a workout was tough. BUT being a bit competitive, I wanted to keep up with those around me. My muscles were sore and generally kinda miserable after. When I had the excuse of missing a workout due to an early morning meeting, I took it. After about two months though, I found myself moving the meetings to a different day or a bit later so I could do both. I was hooked – my day seems incomplete when I have to miss.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
For me the best tools are the trainers. They are each knowledgeable, caring and helpful. Have a question – Ask it!! Whether it is “which muscle is suppose to feel this exercise” or “can you help me with an overall routine”, they are ready, willing and able to assist. Julie McCan has been a great help to me to work on additional flexibility, giving me options for nutrition tracking and more than encouragement in the area of “learning how to run”.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
The support from your fellow participants, the subtle challenges to push yourself to the next level and the celebration of success – the relationships that you form makes Get You In Shape unique and addicting.
Karen Before After Picture 600

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I react well to consistency, accountability and being challenged. Starting my day with the workout gets me focused and places me on tract. Being able to increase the intensity as I am comfortable gives me a sense of accomplishment. I have become more curious as to the “why” of how I feel. I pay attention and have sought additional nutrition information about what my body may need. The knowledge allow the changes in physical routine and dietary supplements easier.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
Surprisingly for me, my proudest moment was when I re-upped for another year. I made it a full year and I wanted to continue for another to see my progress this time next year. After the fact, I was very proud that I recognized these activities as a foundation for my journey to a healthier me.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
Because I have this 5:30-6:30 routine, I am paying attention to all areas of my life. Balance is important to me.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Uncertain of how to develop a concrete goal, my original and overriding goal was to be healthier at the end of the year that I was at the beginning of the year. This overriding goal is most important to me because it is an on-going goal. There will always be something I can do better.

For this year – Yes, I lost pounds in the first several months but the real success is that I FEEL better. My clothes fit better – I am actually pinning up about an inch in my work slacks until I can get them altered. I now sleep better and my energy levels are pretty constant throughout the day. I feel stronger – I see come muscle definition in arms and legs. Just a few measured specifics:

Pounds lost: 12
Inches lost: 13.25
First Attempt Best
the mile 13:28 10:14
Hurdles 35 48
Pull Ups 20 knees bent 31 straight legs
Air Squats 30 35 deeper
I can actually DO a sumo squat now
Push Ups 18 knees 25 toes

Another HUGE for me is “learning how to run”. I reluctantly took the challenge of Cardio Club for the three month trial. I was nervous and uneasy about it. Running does not intimidate me anymore – There is not a person on this earth that would describe me as a speed demon but my endurance is increasing and my recovery time is much shorter. Let’s see if I can break 10 minutes by year end……..always another milestone to reach.

GYISLoBigWhiteBlack
Coppell Fitness – Get You In Shape Client’s of the Month – July

Congrats to both Meredith Adams and Jennifer Farris!

Client of the month Meredith Adams

Meredith is a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician who works specifically on spine and musculoskeletal medicine. She is from here (McKinney) and there (Seattle).

Meredith1She joined GYIS because “Ironically, I developed episodic low back pain and knew I needed to develop and maintain core strength to prevent future episodes.” Before joining, “ I never had a problem wanting to be active but was very bored with the more typical visit to the gym and knew it was time to get back to exercising after having 2 kids. I knew within 2 or 3 classes that I had found the answer to my exercise frustration…finally! Being a spine specialist, I also realized early on that the program was conscientious about proper mechanics and that it was well-balanced in terms of strength and cardio.”

Meredithhas benefited most from the addition of Cardio Club, “ which came for meMeredith personally at just the right time in terms of my fitness. I realized I needed to step it up somehow and then here came KTC…The best thing about Get You In Shape is knowing that if I go consistently, I will get a great workout of each body region, as well as progress my cardio, and that it will be done safely and at the appropriate progression. There are other interval training-based programs out there that are unsafe and push clients too hard too soon. This leads to injury which ultimately leads to downtime and discouragement– I hear it every day from my patients. The program is also very encouraging no matter where you are in your fitness level or from where you have started.”

“I lost 7 pounds in my first month of the Get you In Shape program and another 5 in my second month. After five months, I am down 25 pounds.”I joined to improve my core strength and rid myself of back pain and I have noticed unbelievable improvement.I started boot camp nearly 4 years ago and haven’t had back pain now for over 3 years.I have lost probably 8 pounds or so but have improved my lean body mass significantly so I have decreased in size. When I added Cardio Club, I was initially very tired during the day, but within 6 weeks or so that went away and now I have more energy than ever.I sleep like a rock, too!I have learned a great deal about core strengthening through this journey as well, which has helped me professionally in advising patients.” Her total cholesterol is 27 points lower, her LDL is 30 points lower and her resting heart rate is 15 points lower. “ So, KTC and being sore for 4 years has ( somehow?!) been good for me. Ha.”

Meredith would tell others that “Get You In Shape is a fantastic program. It is a full body exercise done the right way. It’s great to exercise outdoors. It’s fun, it’s safe and the trainers do a great jobdesigning workouts and motivating clients.

Client of the month Jennifer Fariss

Jennifer Farissis a stay at home mom with a set of young twins and has been in Coppell about 8 years.

Before joining Get You In Shape, she had always made it a priority to exercise,so working out was not a new concept for her. Thepast 3 years, she was staying home with her twins. “Early months with two babies results in very little sleep and not much exercise. Once we got into a rhythm with having two little ones…and started getting the rest we needed, we slowly made our way back to the gym. That left me with little progress though. I needed something DIFFERENT. I was in a rut doing the same thing, day in and day out with NO results. That’s not to knock anyone who works out at a gym, I personally just needed someone to tell me to do those exercises I would not likely do on my own…rather than just the jenifferjeniffersame routine on the treadmill or the elliptical.” Her sister-in-law had joined Get You In Shape and told her about it. She did some reading online and decided to sign up. “I think at first, I made a 3 month commitment. Since then, I’ve signed year long contracts. I LOVE it!

Her first impression was “ I can do this”. “It was tough, but there were a variety of fitness levels represented. I quickly made friends with some moms of small children. It’s definitely a community. Now I consider my 6:30 class regulars to be friends!”

Jennifer is a firm believer in the benefits of Advocare. “ I’ve done the 24 day challenge a couple of times. We use Spark daily. Can’t live without it:-). Another tool that helped me was the Biggest Winner Contest… I started using My Fitness Pal to track what I was eating. That really got me into a discipline of knowing what exactly was going in. I also had the good fortune of winning one of the Polar watches during a drawing. I LOVE having a tool that tells me how many calories I burn during a work out. And now that I’m also doing Cardio Club, it’s really awesome to see those numbers.”

Jennifer loves the personal trainers at Get You In Shape. Well, who doesn’t? “The trainers have our best interests in mind. I genuinely appreciate their eagerness to grow in the knowledge of health and exercise and pass that along to us, as the client. I’m thankful for their willingness to listen to clients and always ask “ what can we do to help you?”The ever-changing workouts produce better results and the frequent class times “ give you NO excuse to miss.”

Since starting the program, Jennifer has lost about 30 pounds, with the biggest loss coming through this year’s Biggest Winner contest. “ That really gave me the kick-start I needed. I’ve been able to keep it off, and still continue to lose more. I’ve made the 3 month commitment to Cardio Club this summer. My first mile time was between 11 and 12. My fastest time came this month at 8:19.I’ve been able to get rid of a lot of clothes that are too big. That feels really good, by the way:).

Jennifer would like to tell people “ try it for a month, at least. If you do, you will be hooked. They say it takes 30 days of doing something to create a habit… that is definitely what happened with me. It gives me more energy to keep up with 2 active toddlers. I sleep well. I feel better overall. You have to make your health a priority. Period.”

Paul and Meg Hinkley

1 Name, what you do, and where do you live?
Paul Hinkley . Develop custom income tax software.
Meg Hinkley. Owner of Athena’s Strategies, self defense seminars for women.
Coppell, TexasBoot Camp Coppell Sept13 (19)
2 Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
Paul – Meg (my spouse) had been involved with Get You In Shape for about a year and she was very impressed. I was definitely on a path of Get You Out of Shape and Get You In Shape was an excellent reversal of that process. Get You In Shape was a great way to get back to the importance of physical fitness.
Meg –
I wanted better balance to my work out program. I knew I was neglecting some muscle groups in my work out. I also loved that it was outside!

3 What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Paul – Before Get You In Shape exercise was sporadic, unplanned and unstructured, not a very well rounded approach either. It was also less frequent.

Meg – I have always been involved in fitness but was in a rut. I was also experiencing some fatigue due to nutritional deficiencies. You can get by with some poor nutrition decisions when you are young but not now !

4 What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
Paul – Wow! My first impression was that the programs were so well rounded and varied. One of the most terrific things was I didn’t have to plan the workouts, just show up and focus on the work. The first few weeks (at 5:30am) the class was in sections and it was great to learn basic form in a smaller group.

Meg – I loved the community aspect of the class and the personal instruction from the trainers.

5 What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Paul – One of the valuable things about Get You In Shape is the time set aside for warm up and cool down. Even though those are important and valuable it’s easy to skip them working out as an individual.

Meg – I like the nutrition advice we get in the monthly newsletters, and I have tried several of the advocate products . I especially like the meal replacement shakes and the Metabolic Nutrition System (MNS) supplements.
6. How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you
have tried before? Or What makes Get you In Shape different or unique?
Paul – With the other programs I’ve been involved in the focus was on training for a particular activity that was improved by fitness and conditioning, like soccer or track for example. The Get You In Shape program is directed at overall fitness as the goal so it is much broader. The Get You In Shape trainers are great and really encourage and help everybody so well. The variety of times to train is a real asset for any schedule difficulties too.

Meg – The community aspect and the wonderful trainers make the difference. The trainers are always changing it up to keep us challenged and motivated. I also like the opportunities to participate in special events like 5ks , triathlons, and contests.

7 What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape

Program?

Paul – Dropping about 15 lbs since starting in August of 2010 was great and a mile time down from over 9 min. to just under 8 minutes was a nice measurable change. But the real benefits are a little less easy to measure, lots fewer trips to the chiropractor and lots less ibuprofen is a real testimony to the core work. And generally more energy and being able to do more things that involve physical capability. A real bonus was being able to work long hard days on a recent mission trip where we moved bags of cement, used wheelbarrows to move gravel, refuse and concrete. We did a good bit of mixing loads of concrete with shovels and that was a real workout. It’s a special benefit to be able to use fitness to make a contribution to others.

Meg- My overall fitness has improved. I feel ” ready” at any time to participate in all the outside activities I enjoy like hiking, skiing, and horseback riding. I feel like the program is keeping my body operating as it did in my 30s.

8 What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
Paul – It’s a great program and I’d say there a lot of benefits that may jump right out at you in the first few weeks. It can take a while to build on the good foundation laid at the start but it’s surprising how the benefits keep coming year after year.

Meg – Just Do It!!! You have everything to gain and nothing to lose (except for some extra pounds!)

Post from Meg –
Get You In Shape trainers, I want to give you a big shout out…Paul, Michael and I were in Costa Rica on a mission trip last week. The project ended up being A LOT of heavy construction work. Every day we were mixing concrete (manually, with shovels), moving heavy loads of dirt and rocks, knocking down current concrete structures (sledgehammers), and carrying heavy buckets of wet cement. Paul and I laughed that so much of what we were doing looked like some of our boot camp exercises. I was amazed that we were able to work that hard for that long. While we were very tired at the end of every day, we weren’t all that sore. There is no way we could have done 1/10th of what we did without our get you in shape trainers and the workouts. (I even thought fondly of Tara Dickinson’s workouts during one of my cement hauls!) Thank you so much Get You In Shape!

Billy Faught SOM

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program? Amanda Glassey and Beth Faught had been peer pressuring me for a long time. I had no other excuses when “free August” was offered. It only took one month for me to realize that I needed the accountability so I signed up for 3 months, then went “all in” in January.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program? Basically a roller coaster…….I would get interested in running and enter an event, then struggle because I let life get in the way of training. So I would get frustrated and quit running for a while until another event would come around.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program? I was nervous at first. I have “worked out” for the majority of my adult life, but usually on my own doing what I thought was best. A “drill instructor” hollering “Give me one more” was not something I wanted to deal with. I wasn’t sure I could keep up. But every trainer has been instructional, uplifting, positive, and inclusive while getting the most out of my workout.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you? The Facebook page, Brad’s email tips, and My Fitness Pal are great helps. But most beneficial are the trainers and my fellow GYIS’ers. The support and sense of community here makes me actually look forward to burpees (if we do only 5 at a time).

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? The trainers and the sense of community. This is not “just a business” for Brad and Cynthia, it is a life style that they want to share and enable their clients to make the most out of who they can be.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program? Two examples…..my son and I went to Colorado elk hunting in October. It was not “hide and wait for something to walk out”, we were up and down the mountains in air a little thinner than here, sometimes at a full jog. No way I could have kept up without the training. In November, my Dad had a quadruple by-pass with complications that made for a 6-week stay in the hospital. My Dad is a big guy, and I had to wrestle him around because he was so weak from the surgery. I also drew the night shift for a while. Again, my training enabled me to help in ways not possible had I not been in shape. Honestly, this program has given me the confidence to think I can do anything I want to do…I just have to want it. I am more physically and mentally fit than I have ever been….and that’s a long time!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program? JUST DO IT!! Seriously, come to a free workout, or just come watch one. You will see the positive reinforcement, the camaraderie, and the results.

I am 50 lbs. lighter than I was at this time last year and I actually enjoy exercising.

AmandaGlasse-24Get You in Shape has definitely been a wonderful addition to my life. I now make myself a priority. I am 50 lbs. lighter than I was at this time last year and I actually enjoy exercising. I’ve gone from going ½ mile in almost 9 minutes to 1 mile in a little over 12 (and I’m so close to breaking that 12 minute mark!) I did the 24 day challenge and while I’m still working on mastering the nutrition part of the healthy lifestyle, I saw how I’m supposed to be eating and had some great results that month. I eat breakfast every day now where I used to not. But the biggest change is that I feel like I can do it. I’ve gone from being overwhelmed to taking control. I look for ways to work exercise into my day and if I make a bad food choice, I do it consciously. I’ve made a lifestyle change – and it has benefited not only me. My mom started Get You In Shape too. And we’re both signed up for a 5k to bring in the New Year. If you’d have told me that a year ago, I never would have believed you.
