In addition to being Julie McCan’s husband, Chuck is the Director of Business Development for NexRev Inc. in Plano. He sells energy efficiency solutions to Retail and Theater clients. He has been a Coppell resident since 1994.

Chaney’s husband, Bart, works for Southwest Airlines in the Technology Dept and also lives in Coppell.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?

Chuck:  My wife Julie joined as a client and then became a trainer. She was transforming her health in a positive way and convinced me to try it.

Bart: Chaney made me. Seriously, I began because our oldest son participated, so I worked out with him to encourage him.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?

Chuck: I have always been into fitness and exercised pretty much every day; however I was in a routine. I did the same workout every day. I needed to change it up and work my entire body. I thought I was in great shape until I joined GYIS! The GYIS program turned out to be the perfect solution for me.

Bart: Fat and lazy, life was good. Actually, I have always worked out and was working out before I joined. I stayed with it after my son quit because I liked the focus on the overall body. I also needed to strengthen my core as I have inherited some lovely spine issues.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?

Chuck: Fun atmosphere, great workouts, happy people. My entire body seemed sore for the first few weeks, but it felt good knowing I was working muscles I did not know I had. They taught me the correct form to get the most out of each exercise and that really helped me. I quickly met some new people and felt welcome from day one.

Bart: I was already aware of it thru Chaney. The one thing I did not realize was the sense of community and encouragement.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?

Chuck: The equipment GYIS uses during workouts like slam balls, AbMats, wall balls, kettle bells, and the AbRoller definitely benefit my fitness. My overall body is stronger due to the exercises with this equipment. In addition, GYIS has sponsored many events like 5K runs, Sprint Triathlons, 100 mile run club, group bike rides, group swim lessons. These events are a great motivational tool to keeps me training. In 2014 I will complete eight Sprint Tri races, five 5K races, numerous 5K runs with the GYIS gang, bike rides, etc. It has been a great year!

Bart: The suggest nutritional supplement products and plans such as the 24-Day challenge.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?

Chuck: First we exercise outside (most of the time) hot or cold. It is great to be outdoors. Second of all, prior to GYIS, I worked out on my own, just me. GYIS is a group and there is a ton of support from the trainers and my peers. Thirdly, the trainers make sure each individual is doing the selected exercise correctly which makes a huge difference to your muscles and body.

Bart: Great looking trainers, one in particular (sorry, not you Brad). It is more of a team sport and I do not have to think about what I am going to work out.

Bart and Chuck Fist BumpQ: What makes Get you In Shape different or unique?

Chuck: It is an overall body workout that allows me to push my body as hard as I want. I like the flexibility in the daily schedule. If I cannot make the morning class I can go at lunchtime or in the evening.
The GYIS Cardio Club option on the off days is a great opportunity to improve my fitness.
My workout mates are my friends now. I see them at the Dog Park, grocery store and Farmers Market.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?

Chuck:

  1. I eat better
  2. I sleep better
  3. I drink more water
  4. I motivate others outside of GYIS since I am so active
  5. I have improved my 1-mile run time over two minutes
  6. I have met many great people in Coppell and surrounding communities through GYIS, people I probably never would have met. That is the bonus of the program.

Bart: Stronger core, improved cardiovascular and stamina

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?

Chuck: Jump in and get started. I have seen wonderful stories unfold over the years I have been involved in the program. Most know that my wife Julie is a trainer. I have many GYIS clients tell me how much they love Julie and how her support has changed their lives. I know they feel the same about the other trainers as well. The GYIS family is a great mix of people with different fitness and wellness needs. GYIS works for everyone.

Bart: If you want to join a family that makes working out fun then GYIS is the program for you.
