Candy York. Candy has lost 35 pounds and 24 inches in 3 short months!


1 Name, what you do, and where do you live?
Candy York  I’m a Food Scientist and Director of Product Development for a small prepared food company.  I live in Coppell having just moved here in April 2013 from the Santa Ynez Valley in California.

2 Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?Candy York Before After Picture

After struggling for 3 years to get a chronic health problem under control, I finally had the energy to consider exercising again.  It coincided with the GYIS 6th anniversary promotion I saw in the margins of my web browser.
3 What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Before moving to the Dallas area, I was averaging 10-14 hours a day at work and working on weekends.  I didn’t have much time for anything other than work, so exercise and even eating right were not a priority.  I was exhausted.  With my health issue and complete imbalance on work/ life, something had to give.

4 What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
First week, month, etc GYIS is a very welcoming group from the trainers to the rest of the clients.  Starting in October, the weather was wonderful and it was a blessing to be exercising outside.  Now that it’s been colder, it’s just a matter of bundling up.  The 6:15 pm workouts require creative positioning as to where we exercise to be out of the elements and away from the wind.  Goal setting was new to me in an “exercise program”.  It wasn’t so much that the “goal” was new….it was anchoring the goals with the “so that” for each goal.

5 What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you? Other than making every Get You In Shape Fitness Boot Camp session I possibly can, and religiously doing something / anything for off day cardio, I journal everything I eat using

I can plan my food for the day or make decisions as I go along, but I know if I indulge I just have to find a way to work off the extra unplanned calories.  No bad/ no good….just data that keeps me on track.

6. How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before? What makes Get You In Shape different or unique?

I’m not so sure that the program is as different as others I’ve tried, but that I’m approaching it differently.  This time around I HAVE to do this for life.  Now with health issues, it’s so much more difficult to be reckless with what I eat and how I exercise….it’s getting to be life and death.  I had other opportunities to solve my issues before now and I blew it.

7 What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
In the very first week, my circulation improved to where the edema in my ankles disappeared!!! (It’s too bad we don’t measure our ankles, I would have lost even more inches!!) It’s amazing how moving even slowly helps the body work more efficiently.  It’s now to the point where my shoes are stretched out from what “was” to what “is” right now.  I know just getting out there even if I walked while others ran, I was making a difference.  Changing my meals to 5-6 small meals during the day helped me tick off an average of 2-2.5 lbs a week.  In the first month, I lost 9 lbs and 10 inches.  Since October I’ve lost 35 lbs and 24 inches (Less than 3 months!).  With the new year, I opted to get my game on and join the Total Transformation Contest.  It’s been challenging to add the Advocare products into my medication schedule and I also adjusted my diet to include more protein. My doctor supports and encourages my efforts to restore my health.

8 What would you say to anyone looking at this program?

What are you waiting for?

What’s the quote, “The longest journey starts with the first step.”  Change only takes place when the move is made to affect change.  If I can do it, anyone can.  But it only works when your mind is focused on solid goals and firm commitment.
