Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I joined GYIS because I liked the idea of a variety of group workouts held out of doors. I needed to get my body moving.
Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
I felt lethargic, heavy, my sciatic nerve was inflamed, my forearm and wrist would ache during the day or when performing certain daily movements. I had an entire wardrobe I wanted to discard.
Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
I was going to have to work to see the results I desired but it was going to be an enjoyable journey. The first 2-3 weeks my muscles were sore every day. This was not really surprising since I had not exercised in over a year and sat most of the day during my job. However, by weeks 3 and 4 I wasn’t as sore, I had begun to see results and woke up really ready to join my 5:30 early morning workout group. Every workout was different yet equally effective.
Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Identifying and setting my own goals. Utilizing My Fitness Pal to become more aware of daily water and calorie intake. Coaching follow-up to encourage and address any concerns or questions along the way.
Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
I have participated in many group workouts over the past 30 years and can honestly say that the encouragement and personalized attention provided by the GYIS trainers and fellow boot campers is exceptional. I have felt included, motivated, received recognition for my efforts, and become part of a fitness family that cheers my success even if it’s doing just 1 more push-up! This type of inclusive, positive and successful program is hard to find.
Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
Surprisingly to me, my wrist and forearm pain are gone (planks and push-ups really strengthened these muscles). My sciatic nerve issue, while not completely gone, has diminished to only minor irritation after lengthy periods of sitting. I lost 5 lbs. during my first two weeks and a total of 8 lbs. after 5 weeks. Overall, I have steadily lost 19.2 lbs. and 20.25 inches during the past 4 months. I find that I now make healthier snack and meal choices more easily for me and my family. I am more productive at work and happier with myself; resulting in recognition from my husband and co-workers as a definite by-product of my workouts. Recently, I received 2 unsolicited compliments on my “beauty” from complete strangers which was a great ego boost for this old lady! LOL
Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
If you are looking for a positive environment, accountability, and personal motivation to identify and achieve your fitness goals with a variety of workouts that will hit every muscle group . . . there is no better place to be. You will feel great knowing you are doing the work and seeing results.
