Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
The last two years, I have gone from daily running to eating and sitting. I have allowed life’s stresses to cause me to trade my one good habit (trail running) for eating, thus gaining 30 pounds. Along with the weight game and life long poor nutrition habits, I felt mentally foggy, tired and overwhelmed.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
By chance I happened to see the expression: “Take care of your body. It’s the only one you have to live in.” I realized I needed to do just that before age made the decision for me. I still did not do anything until I saw, again by chance, a poster that said: “You don’t get the “behind” you want by sitting on it.” Time to act – I began searching the internet for something that would jerk me out of my bad habits and Get You In Shape’s philosophy seemed to speak to me. It appeared to be a supportive, non-judgmental environment, which is exactly what it turned out to be.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
After signing up for the 21 day meldown program, I attended the one-on-one orientation, where Brad gets to know what motivates each client, what the client’s obstacles might be etc. I was very impressed with the fact the trainers realize weight loss/fitness has so much to do with one’s mental and emotional state. As a teacher I know you can’t really teach someone something new until you know what motivates that person to learn it.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
The daily emails with tips, thoughts, recipes are very helpful. I don’t necessarily ready them every day, but when I am fighting a craving for M&Ms or wanting to skip a workout, I just read a few of the emails or some of the stories from the book Brad gives new clients, and it helps put me back on track.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?

I have had gym memberships and even a personal trainer once due to an injury, but no program was able to change what was really causing me to fail to reach my goals. My inability to stop reaching for caffeine in the form of 8-10 diet Dr. Peppers per day, along with handfuls of M&Ms for energy was a major obstacle. For decades I basically threw anything that was junk into my mouth. Brad introduced me to the nutritional drink Spark and asked me to replace my morning Dr. Pepper, ok, Dr. Peppers (I usually drank 3 before 10 a.m.). Putting proper nutrition into my body along with drinking the amount of water the program requests, helped me wean off a 40 year, 8-10 a day diet soda habit. I won’t say I don’t still enjoy a diet DP now and then, but it’s now a special treat rather than a ritualistic habit. The fact that the Get You In Shape program is designed to determine what is holding you back and targets that behavior is what makes this program different.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I have just finished the 21 day meltdown program and have lost 10 pounds. I feel like I am regaining my mental and physical strength. It’s a slow process, and I still have more weight to lose, but I now have more energy than the constant sugar bombardment ever gave me. I have learned for the first time in my life what it really means to stay hydrated and how much drinking water instead of other beverages really helps with muscle fatigue. I look forward to continuing this journey.

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
Getting in shape still means you have to be mentally and emotionally ready to accept the challenge. You cannot pay someone to do it for you. However if you are ready, this program provides every tool one would need to succeed if you, as Brad says, “just follow the darn instructions”.
