Coppell Trainer Rookie of the Month – March 2018 – Kristina Varela

My name is Kristina, my fiancé and I own CK Glass and Mirror company, and I live in Lewsiville.

Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Before GYIS, I was sad. I was too busy making concessions instead of making changes. I knew that I had to do something, but I felt like I was “too far gone” to actually be capable of doing anything. I was getting more and more out of breathe, my joints hurt more and more; when I look back I can actually see that my body was screaming for me to do something-anything.

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I finally decided to join after my friend Rochelle had invited me to try it one Saturday and I heard God tell me “Just go”. So I went, because I had this goal “to loose 100 pounds” sitting on a shelf completely out of reach and literally not doing anything to try to reach it, so at least if I went to this thing at least once, it will just be one more thing I tried and didn’t work and I wont feel so bad anymore. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the workout. And the people are amazing. And then I heard God again, “Just sign up for the 21 day challenge” and I thought ok, I can do this. Its just 21 days. Just like that, small step after small step, I jumped in all the way and signed up for a year. I’m getting married in October and I don’t want to look back at my wedding pictures for years wishing I would have done something.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
My first impression was “wow, this is exactly what I needed”. Because of the group training, I always feel supported and encouraged. I used to tell myself, “if only I was rich and didn’t have a job, THEN I could be healthy and have a personal trainer and workout every single day.” Even though it’s a “group” setting, the GYIS trainers really help me personally to make sure I am doing the exercises correctly and answering any questions I have and make it feel very personal.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Foam roller! Remember all that talk about how I wasn’t doing ANYTHING? Well, let me tell you. If anyone/anything knows how much of nothing I was doing, it was my shins! After my first week of workouts and cardio club, my shins were on fire! And after my first month, I was introduced to a foam roller and finally got some good shoes. I am so happy to say after rolling them out and changing my shoes, my shin splints are on their way out! Also, the fiber cleanse at the beginning of the challenge was a huge help for me to learn about what my body needs vs what I had been giving it.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
The GYIS program is different from everything I have ever done because it is actually working. It really is SO SIMPLE. You just have to DO IT. That’s it, like Nike, just do it. If you’re not doing anything, do SOMETHING. GYIS has the best trainers. I can’t even single one out because they are seriously all amazing and no other program has the people GYIS does. The accountability, progress reports and focus on WHY your goals are your goals are such a great part of the program to help keep you on track.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
My journey has been exciting. My weight has been a life-long battle. A battle that I felt like I had to deal with on my own, after all I’m the only one to blame. One small step at a time, God reminded me that he is always with me no matter what and that I didn’t have to fight this one on my own. If someone would have told me at the beginning of 2017 that I would be waking up at 4:45 every morning and working out 6 days a week by the end of the year I would have fallen over from laughing so hard. But just like my journey with Jesus, it’s just one small next step at a time. I know I’m not going to lose 100 pounds tomorrow and not even the next month, but I’m on my way. I have realized that if I fail, I will be the only reason I fail. Nothing else is stopping me, except me. I can finally walk around the mall without sweating or running out of breath. My knees are thanking me with every pound I waive good bye to. For the first time in my life, I actually feel like running when I leave the office because I have so much energy at the end of day!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking at this program?
To anyone who is looking into this program I would ask them what are they waiting for? Another year to go by where they wished they would done something the year before? Are you waiting until you actually can’t breathe before you make a change? Are you waiting for rock bottom before you actually stand up? STOP IT. Get up, just do it. One small step at a time. Join the challenge.
