Coppell Trainer of the Month – April 2017 – Karen McMahon

Karen McMahon is a mother of two, Cardio Club coach, and former Event Coordinator for The Washington Speakers Bureau. She lives in Coppell.

Q: What was the biggest challenge/problem you were facing before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Before GYIS, I was never consistent with my workouts. I would have a great week, and then treat myself to an entire month off! I had low drive and energy and felt very unhealthy overall.

Q: Why did you end up deciding to join the Get You In Shape program?
I finished my trial month and felt motivated to get my body back in shape after having two kids. The trainers were so supportive and encouraging, and finally I didn’t feel intimidated about being in a group setting. I needed and wanted to feel good about myself again.

Q: Walk us through your journey. What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
I noticed results fairly quickly, particularly in my energy level. I also found myself eating healthier and sleeping better. However, Cardio Club was the big game changer for me. I had never run before, and soon I was running longer and faster. After joining, I ran my first 5k and first full marathon exactly one year apart! It was an amazing experience for someone like me who had never been active.

Q: Why did you decide to give your time and become part of the Get You In Shape Team?
Cardio Club was such an important part of my life, and I benefitted from the support system it brings to those who already enjoy running or want to give it a try. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to help others on their journey.

Q: What strengths/special gifts do you feel help you as a trainer with Get You In Shape?
The perspective I bring to my role is my biggest strength. I know how it feels to be starting a new exercise program, but I also know how much of a blessing it can be too. I try to bring that patience and encouragement to the clients.

Q: What are some of the benefits that you have received by being a trainer on the Get You In Shape Team?
It has been so rewarding watching clients push themselves, reach their goals, and even venture out of their comfort zones with running. It’s awesome to see so many people enjoy the benefits of cardio and running outside of class!

Q: What would you say to anyone looking to join this program?
Give the gift of good health to yourself. You are worth the commitment. The GYIS family is there to support you all the way.
