Q: What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
In one word, sedentary. Working from home, on the computer, I was not getting enough exercise. I was gaining weight and my clothes were getting tighter. Last year I had a large project at work, with a deadline that could not be pushed. Stress, lack of sleep, lack of exercise all added up. I tried to work out a bit but doing that on my own did not work. I was not consistent enough to make a difference. I was snoring so loud that my wife was getting irritable due to me keeping her awake…

Q: Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
I saw something on Facebook about the 28-Day Jump Start. I had heard about GYIS before but thought I could do it on my own. Since this was a one-month trial I decided to give it a shot. After the first couple weeks, I was hooked.

Q: What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
My first impression was how friendly and supportive the people are – both the trainers and the participants. I was kind of nervous about going the first day because I was so out of shape. But after the first day I felt comfortable going, thanks to the people. I never knew what we were going to do each day, but the trainers explained the exercises well and stressed for me to go at my own pace.

Q: What have been some of the tools you have used that have benefited you?
Reading through the Game Plan booklet taught me a lot about what to eat and what not to eat. Prior to GYIS I was consuming a lot of carbs – potatoes, pasta, rice, soft drinks, bread. The first couple weeks in the program I followed the darn instructions pretty closely – smoothies most mornings, meal suggestions and recipes from the online cookbook. I think the first month in the program I had one serving of potatoes, no pasta, no or very little rice. And the results shocked me. The weight really started coming off. My clothes began to fit better, and then got loose.

Q: How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
I’ve never really been in an exercise or weight loss program before, and I’ve never had a personal trainer. So I can’t compare GYIS to any other programs, but what I can say is the group atmosphere is really good for me. Again, the supportive, positive people make me want to keep coming back. That and the results.

Q: What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
My goal was to lose 10 pounds in the first 28 days. After 2 weeks in the GYIS program I had already lost 15 pounds. My clothes are fitting better (I need to buy a new, smaller belt), I am sleeping better and snoring less, I have more energy. I’ve been on blood pressure medicine for a number of years, and my pressure is lower now than it has been in a long time. I’m hoping by the time my next physical rolls around that maybe I can get off my BP medicine once and for all. We’ll see…
