Get You In Shape Spotlight of the Month – October 2014

The Get You In Shape team hand selects clients each month that we feel have transformed their health and fitness. This Get You In Shape Spotlight Rookie for September joined Get You In Shape in July 2014 and started seeing improvements immediately.   Check it out below.

Name, what you do and where you live?
Scarlet Kirby and I am a HRIS Analyst for Michaels Stores and lives in Coppell.

Why did you decide to join the Get You In Shape program?
At the time I joined, I had recently moved to Coppell from Austin. I was walking around the Andy Brown Park in the evening when I saw a group of people holding in ‘plank position’ on the sidewalk near the pavilion. Prior to that moment, I had been doing a lot of ‘thinking’ about joining an exercise program as a way to get out and meet new people in the community, and for my own health benefit. Of course, ‘thinking’ is usually where it ended. That was – until I saw the evening group and talked to Cynthia Linder about the program. I went home, googled ‘Get You In Shape’ and decided this was exactly the right type of exercise environment for me.

What was your life like before joining the Get You In Shape Program?
Exercise was not part of my lifestyle and had not been for a very long time. I had been a single mother for years and I didn’t prioritize exercise and overall health into my busy life. I was often ‘on-the-go’ and didn’t make the time or I was too tired to exercise. My outside appearance may have looked like I was healthy but on the inside I was not. I had a sedentary lifestyle, made unhealthy eating choices, and had high cholesterol.

What was your first impression from the Get You In Shape program?
Within the first week of going, I was hooked. Naturally, my body was sore but it was a good feeling and I wanted to continue going. I received quick results by losing a few pounds and noticed toning in my arms and stomach (my daughter even noticed and complimented me on my new strong shape). I was sleeping better and making healthier food choices. After only five months of joining, I completed my first triathlon.

What have been some of the tools you have used from the Get You In Shape Coppell Fitbess Camp that have benefited you?
There are so many tools I have used because Get You In Shape provides you with many resources to help you reach your goals. The weekly emails with reminders and trainer tips help to keep me focused and motivated. I also enjoy taking the Advocare supplements as part of my daily regimen and drinking plenty of water throughout the day. This has complemented my exercise activities and provided me with an additional level of energy. Another great benefit to the program is that it doesn’t end with boot camp and Get You In Shape is always involved in planning organized groups to train for triathlons, running events, etc.

How is the Get You In Shape program different from other programs you have tried before?
Get you In Shape is different from any other program because I am still going after two years. At other programs, I was simply making aScarlet Kirby_After monthly donation because I would pay the dues and didn’t go. This program is designed for people of all shapes and sizes, ages and fitness levels. I actually enjoy waking up early to go to a 5:30am class. The trainers always change it up or have something new or different to keep it fun. Brad and Cynthia Linder and every one of the trainers motivate you and take a genuine interest in your fitness helping to set new goals.

What results and benefits have you experienced in the Get You In Shape Program?
Each year I receive required company biometric screening as part of our benefits program, and consistently for years my cholesterol was in the ‘alert’ range. Since joining Get You In Shape two years ago, exercising regularly, and making healthier food choices, I have lowered my cholesterol to a healthy level (I now have an apple next to my cholesterol test instead of an exclamation point!). The regular exercise has also helped me to reduce stress, sleep better, and just feel good about myself.

What would you say to anyone looking at this program?

The Get You In Shape program is an investment in your health and overall wellness. The trainers take a genuine interest in each and every person at class to make sure they are reaching their fitness goals while motivating each individual to do their best and push you to the next level. It has been one of the best choices I have made for myself and would be for anyone looking for this type of fitness environment.
