Client of the Year Finalist Jennifer Tear

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
My name is Jennifer Tear and I live in Irving Texas. I am a middle school teacher at a private school in Dallas. I began Get You in Shape at the beginning of June 2012.

Where were you at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
My life before the Get You In Shape program was pretty boring and most definitely unhealthy. Being overweight is normal in my family so I just grew up that way. Once I started working after college, my life turned into work, home, work, home etc. It stayed that way for 4.5 years. Finally, during a regular doctor visit and years of me telling them something just didn’t feel right, I was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder. I was told weight loss wasn’t possible for me and I shouldn’t expect any results. Not a good answer as far as I am concerned. Guess that just really pushed my buttons to do this once and for all.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?
I was driving down the road when I told a friend I wanted to do a 5K. As soon as I said it, I saw a sign for a 5K in Coppell benefiting a local charity. I knew 3 miles was a long way but I could walk and run it. All I knew was that I was going to finish it. After the race, I saw a booth for Get You In Shape and decided to try it. Nothing else had worked so I thought maybe this will. There are so many plans I have for my life, and I knew I needed to find my step 1.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
My first session was a Friday morning at 8am. On that morning, Chaney was the personal trainer. There wasn’t a beginner class going on at that time so I just jumped right in with everyone else. Chaney walked up to me and introduced herself as well as some of the members around me. I can definitely say that first class was a major eye opener. Running around the pavilion was out of the question that morning because I was out of breath halfway around that thing. I had worked out at gyms with trainers before and never broke a sweat. After that first class, I was soaked and hooked! I decided after that first class I wanted to try it out for a month. That was also the same morning I met Cynthia (at the end of class). Chaney took my measurements and I can honestly I was mortified. I had never had them taken before and was clueless to the extent of my condition. I knew with those numbers, the risk of developing the diseases that my family had wouldn’t be too far away from me. I had to get those numbers way down to control this metabolic disorder.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that have helped you?
One of the best tools for me are the trainers. Being able to show up to a class or shot an email with a question and get an answer. However, the biggest thing to me are the measurements that are done bi-weekly. There have been several weeks where I didn’t lose any weight or I even gained weight, but I lost inches. I have only lost around 10 pounds but I have lost 25 inches to date. If that doesn’t scream “it can be done” then I don’t know what else does. I am still working on the eating side of things but that is improving daily.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
The best part to me is getting to work out with some awesome people. Everyone is on different levels and abilities so nobody feels left out or behind. I was really scared that I was going to get behind or be embarrassed on my first day but I had the opposite feeling. I saw everyone was just doing what they could. Nobody was there to show off. People who are part of the Get You In Shape program are all there for the same reason, to improve their life.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
Everything in my life has changed. Before Get You In Shape, my life was a horrible cycle of work and home. I avoiding going out with friends because I was so self-conscious of my weight and my looks. I just didn’t like myself or who I was. But once I started believing in myself and the fact that results are possible, it gave me a new sense of pride in who I am. It has created a new outgoing person that I am still trying to figure out. It is definitely a new adventure and I am excited to see what other things in my life develop.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
The two moments of which I am most proud is when I went shopping and had dropped two sizes. My work pants were getting so big I was tripping over them on a daily basis. The second moment was when I was named Client of the Month. That completely blew me away; I had only been participating for about 4 months. It definitely gave me the motivation to keep going.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
I was always athletic growing up so being active really wasn’t that foreign to me. However, during college I stopped playing sports and became inactive and I got used to it. I don’t think a lot of people took me seriously when I started the program but now they can see I am serious. I no longer live the work home, work home routine. I no longer stay at work until 5:30 every day. I now leave around 4:15 staying late only one day a week. My overall health finally became a priority. I have also become more outgoing by going out more with friends and family. I can honestly say that I am dedicated to this program because I have a part time job on the weekends just to pay for it.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
I can do 70 air squats in 90 seconds.
My one mile time started at 18:00 minutes and I am now around 13:30.

It took me two years to lose the first 10 pounds. Since starting Get You In Shape in June, I have lost 10 pounds and 25 inches. Due to my metabolic disorder, it takes me twice as long as the average person to see get results. But I will say, my achievements are much more than just numbers. My attitude and outlook on things has become incredibly more optimistic. I have several goals in mind and I am aware it will take a little while to achieve some of them. I make myself and my workouts a priority and if I miss a class it has never been because I chose not to attend.

Client of the Year Finalist Kathy Chasteen

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
Kathy Chasteen, I am a PE teacher and Athletic Coach at Coppell Middle School North and a Coppell resident for the last 16 years and I started Get You In Shape at the beginning of this last summer.

Where were you in your life before Get You in Shape? What did your life look like?
Coaching takes a lot of time before and after school, so I would try to go to the gym after practice… but most of the time I was too tired and I just wanted to go home and rest from the long day!!

Why did you join Get You in Shape?
Because all of my clothes were way too tight, my mid-section was hanging over the top everything, I was TIRED all of the time and seemed to never have enough rest!

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You in Shape?
My daughter Kelly and I started with the 5:30am class in the “beginner” section. The other section was for the hard core CRAZY people!! Ha!! Anyway… I had a hard time; sometimes the warm up would do me in before we even started the WOD! Mile Wednesday was horrible… I hated running because it was so hard for me.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program that have helped you?
Advocare…specifically the 24 day challenge. It helped me understand what and how to eat; the importance of vitamins and supplements. Spark has changed my life; I live on it and water.

Boot Camp… more about this in #6 below

Cardio Club… I want to give a lot of credit to Kristi, the personal trainer,  and the Cardio Club program! I hated running! I called her class” track practice” and that was not a compliment. I used to literally die in the warm up and now I can run it without stopping and I’m not the last one to finish anymore!

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
I now really do not mind working out. I love how the trainers motivate and how the clients support each other. I love how each workout is planned with me in mind and all I have to do is show up!

How has the Get You in Shape program helped change your life?
I have more energy than I have had in DECADES.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
*
last mile Wednesday… took almost 2 minutes off my last mile time
*lost 13.75 total inches since June
* I have a friend that sells clothes… and she ask me to model them for her at her last showing… trust me, this has never happened before.
* And last but not least… my husband and I were going out to eat with friends and when I came out to get in the car… He said, “Oh My Gosh, you look great” and this time I could tell he really meant it!

How has the Get You in Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
I feel better than I have in such a long time.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Well let’s just say, I would not have achieved the results I talked about earlier without the Get You In Shape program and Cardio Club.
Kelly and I have joined the “CRAZY” people on the other side and they’re not so crazy!

Client of the Year Finalist Dave Lacinski

Basic Information: Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
My name is Dave Lacinski and I am a marketing director at Texas Instruments. I live in Coppell with my wife Linda.  We have one son Brian; he graduates from Texas Tech in December. Linda and I started with the Get You In Shape program at the beginning of April.

Where were you at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
Before we joined Get You in Shape, I was out of shape, ate way too much, generally felt terrible and had zero energy. My blood pressure, weight and waist line were increasing every time I went for my annual physical. It was clear I needed to do something different in my life. Linda and I plan to live a long life together and physically I was just going in the wrong direction.

Why did you join Get You In Shape?
I joined Get You In Shape initially because my wife Linda thought it was something we could do together to make some health improvements and hopefully regain some of the lack of energy we were struggling with. I liked the structure of the program. I was able to plan my workouts at a time that was convenient for me and I was able to go at a pace that was reasonable for someone in my physical condition. I liked the approach of the group setting and having it outdoors was a definite plus.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
My initial sessions with Get You in Shape were a bit stressful. You really never know just how out of condition you are until you start to stress your system a bit! To be honest, I struggled during the first week. But, an amazing thing happened to me, — I actually lost weight! By the end of the first 4 sessions, I was actually feeling different. By the fifth session, much to my surprise I was actually looking forward to going to the workouts. The environment was very positive. The personal trainers were super encouraging. No one was yelling at you because you couldn’t do all the reps. It was a good positive experience and was something I was actually enjoying not only physically but also the mental work break that comes with working out.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program that have helped you?
The tools I have benefited from most are the Trainer Tips, The 24 Day Challenge, bi-weekly measurements and the general nutrition information that both Linda and I were able to use to help us change our eating habits. Since work travel almost always interferes with some structure, the Workout ABCs are very helpful to me. It’s something I can follow while on business travel, and that Linda and I can do when on personal travel, and makes it easy to get a workout planned. The bi-weekly measurements are a great way to keep motivated. Sometimes the weight doesn’t change much but the inches continue to melt away which gives you some great feedback.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
There are 4 points which really stand out for me to describe what I like the most about the program and allowed me to tailor my plan to meet my goals.
·    The trainers are great folks. They are genuinely enthusiastic about the progress each of the participants is making. It’s amazing that they can all have a sense of humor at 5:30 AM! It wouldn’t be near as much fun without their enthusiasm.
·    The structured program of working out targeting various muscle groups and mixing in cardio makes the workouts interesting.
·    The availability of support by Brad and the entire Get You In Shape team has been awesome. If you have a question about workouts or nutrition or just some words of encouragement, they are there to help.
·    I like the flexibility of the program to allow you to add other items to your plan. Things like some Saturday workouts, the 24 Day Challenge, additional Cardio each offer benefits that helped me move forward.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I think the starting point for this question has to be asking if things did change in your life. In my case as well as Linda’s the answer is a resounding YES! Since both of us were in the program, we began to see how, as Brad says “Focus on Change and you get results” makes sense. We have focused on eating differently and getting our workouts in. In turn the changes we have made have boosted our energy levels and increased out endurance and stamina. The added strength of our core has helped improve our posture that had degraded from sitting in an office all day. I think we actually eat less but feel much better. I no longer feel exhausted at the end of the day even with a stressful work environment. My blood pressure is dropping steadily and while I have a bit more to do, I feel like I am on the right track.  When you feel good physically and mentally your approach to life’s every day challenges is much different.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
Initially my proudest moment was surviving the first week of the boot camp. But I can say today, that seems to be in the distant past. Each week I find myself feeling stronger. I now run the mile in under 8 minutes when I started out in April at over 10 minutes.  I participated in the 24 Day Challenge and lost over 12 lbs and numerous inches. It’s been over 60 days since I finished the Challenge and I am still losing weight and inches due to the bootcamp workouts and healthy eating habits.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
As I had mentioned earlier, the key areas for me were my overall general health and my energy level. Feeling better and having increased energy level has helped me immensely at work to stay focused and be mentally sharp during a long day of meetings, crises of the day and other work related issues.  Linda says I’m happier, too.  My overall confidence level is being restored. I am no longer the fat guy at the end of the table!

Since Linda and I have seen similar physiological improvements, we now plan our meals together, shop for the groceries and generally provide the motivation for each other to “stay with the program”. We have made the changes in our lives a positive experience for the both of us.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Since joining the program at the beginning of April, I have lost over 27 lbs and 20 inches.  These “gains” have enabled me to lower my blood pressure a significant amount.  My body shape is very different now than what it was 7 months ago. I have dropped a pant waist size and a wear a size smaller in my shirts. As a side note, when I wear my “old” clothes – I look like I am wearing my brother’s clothes (He’s much bigger than me)! It’s actually quite shocking when I think about all that “extra stuff” I was hauling around. No wonder I was always tired and hungry.

Client of the Year Finalist Aylan Him

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
My name is Aylan Him. I am a mechanical engineer. I live at Coppell and have been in the Get You In Shape program for 2 years and a half.

Where were you in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I started the program 3 months after having my first child. I thought that I was in a good shape for just having a baby. Back then I used to walk with my mom around a lake in Las Colinas and tried to eat as healthy as possible, but I didn’t exercise every day. I wasn’t lean or have any defined muscles.

Why did you  join Get You In Shape?
I decided to join the program because my baby weight stuck to me. It did not look the way I wanted. I also needed to get out of the house and feel like I was doing something for myself. I wanted to feel active and pretty again!!!

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
I was impressed how this program makes you use your own body as an instrument to work out. All   you need are some weights and a mat. I did not lose any weight the first month, but I lost a bunch of inches on places I thought would be impossible. I never thought that doing by just doing simple exercises I could get in even better shape than when I was back in college. I also love the way we use the outdoors to workout. All the trainers were good explaining and showing me the right way to do the exercises. They were kind and they even knew my name. I felt like I was not just somebody else in a gym, I felt I was part of a team of people wanting to get better health.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program that have helped you?
The program has made me get into an exercise routine that I could have not done by myself. I am sports addict now. The tips of the week and the tips at the 24 day challenge have helped me change my eating habits. The snacks ideas, the water intake information, the warm-up and stretching routines are great.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
I love the people that I work out with. I love how they make me challenge myself. Without offending anybody, I admire and would like to be as active and energetic as most of people that I work out. I love to see my improvements and I learned that I am able to do things that I never thought I could before. I like when my exercise partners notice and worry when I miss a class. I love to enjoy the city where I live and be part of it thru the involvement with Get You in Shape.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
It really changed my life and my self-esteem because I have the body that I never thought I would. I have two beautiful boys and this program helped me get back in shape after both of my pregnancies. The program taught me that everything you set as a goal can be made with “YES” a lot of effort, but it can be done, BELIEVE me.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
I can’t tell you just one. I have had many. The first one is when I got even leaner after my second baby was born. I am also proud and grateful that I was able to work out during almost my entire second pregnancy. Third, I ran a 10K and I did not faint. Last but not least….to work out three to four times a week at 5:30 in the morning in the “extreme” class with Julie, the personal trainer who leads that class. These are my proudest moments.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
The Get You in Shape program helped my family interact with our community more and more every day. I am teaching my family better eating habits and it made me more aware of how important it is to get out of the house and play, exercise, feel the environment and take care of it for our kids.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?

This program helped me have the health and the figure I always wanted. This program changed me forever. I won’t ever stop exercising or trying to convince my friends to do it because I love them and I know perseverance is something that always gets you where you want to be in life. That is something that I proved by joining Get You in Shape.

3rd Place Winner   Barret Clark
$100 plus 1 Free Month of Get You In Shape

Basic Information. Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have
been in the Get You In Shape program.
Barrett Clark
Software Developer
Coppell, TX
I have been in the Get You In Shape program for 3 years (summers at first and now year-round)

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I had been in reasonably good shape from cycling, but let it go. I was not careful about
what I ate, and I was not physically active. I regained all the weight that I’d lost cycling
and kept gaining until I reached nearly 200 lbs. I felt bad about myself, and I felt bad in
general. My back hurt a lot too. I would get winded walking a flight of stairs.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?
I was tired of feeling gross. My wife is the PT for the school district, and I ran the
Special Olympics 5k. I decided to take advantage of the discounted month of
the Get You In Shape program, with my wife’s support and encouragement.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
I remember the initial orientation at the Aquatic Center. There were a lot of people
there, and we did measurements. Ugh! Now I had numbers to show me how out of
shape I had become.
My first real impression of Get You In Shape was the newbie class off to the side with one of the personal trainersChaney,  at 6:30 AM. I became friends with 3 other rookies, and we worked out together for the month. Chaney is fantastic. My friends didn’t continue, but I did a second month. The first month was really good, and I made a lot of progress. I wanted to see how much more I could accomplish with a second month.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used
that has helped you?
The most beneficial components of the Get You In Shape program are the excellent trainers and the camaraderie amongst fellow bootcampers. They have made the program a positive and fun experience. I would talk about how great bootcamp was throughout the year — even when I wasn’t attending. I look forward to bootcamp because it makes me feel good — both from the exercise and the friendships.
I would run throughout the year when I was not attending bootcamp. I eventually began
running half marathons. This would not have been possible without Get You In Shape! The
Advocare products have been beneficial in my training.

I used to be really shy. I would just come to class, work out, and leave. I finally opened
up this summer, and it has made a world of difference. You cannot underestimate the
power of friendships. We encourage and push each other. I also really look forward to
the Cardio Club training and social runs.
I have taken advantage of everything Get You In Shape has to offer.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
Cardio Club
The trainers
5:30 high-intensity class
Classmates
Running!
Exercising consistently every day has been fantastic. I would run throughout the school
year when I was not attending Get You In Shape, but I never did anything beyond running.
I saw Chaney at the Special Olympics 5K, and told her that I was looking forward to
coming back for another summer of bootcamp. She knew I was a runner and
mentioned Cardio Club. 5:30 AM?! I was not so sure about it, but I liked the idea of the
class, so I enrolled.
Cardio Club has been life changing! Kristi, the trainer leading the program,  makes Cardio Club fun by incorporating
games and drills that help work on speed and endurance. As a result I am now running
the mile in about 6:30, and recently beat my personal best half marathon time by almost
5 minutes. That’s crazy! I never considered myself a fast runner. I am also training for
my first marathon with my running partner, whom I met in Cardio Club.
As a runner, I also wanted to focus on core and upper body strength. In August I shifted
from the 6:30 AM class to the 5:30 AM high-intensity class, lead by personal trainer Julie McCan.  Julie is wonderful at pushing all of us.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I feel better overall, and also more confident. I wouldn’t be as strong of a runner if it
weren’t for the drills in Cardio Club and the full body exercises in the Get You in Shape session. The program works!
During my first summer I lost 12.5 lbs in 2 months. As a result I had to buy new clothes.
That was an awesome problem to have. I wanted to look nice too. I had worked hard
to be able to fit into those new clothes, and I was proud of how I now looked. I ran
during the school year, and slowly kept adding to my wardrobe.
This summer I embarked on a personal journey. I decided to train for a marathon
because I needed an outlet for some stress that was really weighing me down. I felt like
I was not in control of my life, and I was pretty depressed. I needed to do something.
My plan was to just run. That was it. Run.
Get You In Shape was my favorite time of the day. I loved seeing the beautiful sunrise and
getting a good workout. I started to open up, and formed friendships. I realized that
you can’t just run. I needed support. I had a tremendous support group in my friends
at Get You In Shape. I said it before, but it bears saying again. You cannot underestimate the power of friendships — both in my fellow bootcampers and also in the trainers.
I did the sprint tri that Julie organized, and teamed up with Julie and Ellie. I still didn’t
really know anyone very well, and I really didn’t ever want to do a triathlon.
Nevertheless, I decided I was going to just go for it. I’m so glad I did because I enjoyed
sharing that training experience with everyone.
Once the tri was done Kristi began her training runs for the Dallas Marathon. We also
participated in some fun social runs. I was surprised with the realization that I am a
good runner. I’m not the fastest, but I enjoy trying to keep up, and giving my best effort.
In an effort to run away from something, I ended up finding myself and a great group of
friends whom I enjoy joking around with. Oh yeah, and exercising too.
It’s easy to make excuses for why you can’t do something. Get You In Shape helped me shake off those excuses. I couldn’t do 10 pushups before I started. I could barely run a 5k. You just have to commit to making the effort. That’s a good life lesson.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
Finishing the mile run, and finding out we had run it in 6:33, which was almost a minute
faster than my fastest time.
Having the trainers tell me that it would be good for me to partner up with people whom
I thought were incredibly strong, and being able to keep up with them.
Seeing that I was in the “elite” group when we ran in Cardio Club. I was never
considered athletic growing up, and now I was good at something. What an amazing
feeling!
I hit my target weight of 165 lbs, and finally cleaned out my closet (after 3 years of
Get You In Shape and running)! Only clothes that actually fit now!
Having my oldest son join us on one of the Cardio Club social 5k runs and going to
bootcamp with us afterwards. I was proud of him, and he was proud of me.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
My family is a lot healthier now. We all exercise and are careful about what we eat. My
wife has been very supportive of my Get You In Shape activities. My children have started running more and have done some of the social runs with me.
I’m about to turn 40, and am in the best shape of my life. I have more energy. I am
much less stressed and happier.
I am proud. My friends and coworkers ask me regularly about class or how far I’m
running. I feel like they respect and admire what we do on a regular basis.
Ellie started tutoring my youngest son to help him with reading, and he’s doing really
well.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape
program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
• I’ve lost 30 lbs since starting Get You In Shape
• I got rid of my old baggy clothes and replaced them with new stuff that fits
• I went from not being able to do 10 pushups to attending the 5:30 AM high intensity
class and running most days
• I ran 5 half marathons in 2011 and am training for the Dallas Marathon
I have said since the first summer in 2010 that Get You In Shape gave me a new start. I loved it, so
I continue to come back. Now it’s such an integral part of my life that I cannot imagine
not doing bootcamp and Cardio Club. I don’t want to imagine not doing them.

2nd Place Winner Amber Malcolm
$150 Plus 2 Free Months Of Get You In Shape

Name, occupation, where you live, and how long you have been in the Get You In Shape program.
Amber Malcolm, Stay at home mom, Lewisville Texas, August 2012

Where you were at in your life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I wanted to get back in shape but wasn’t able to stay consistent. I went to a few classes here and there but was not keeping up with what I was eating. I was self conscious and didn’t like what I saw when someone took a picture of me.  I also wanted to be in better shape to play with my kids.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?
I was introduced to the Get You In Shape program through a Groupon that Lindy Kinnan ran across. It was 1 month and I thought it would be a great jump start back into the reality of the gym. I also wanted to carve a little bit of “me” time and this was one area where I wanted to see change.  I joined after the first month was up because I could see that this program worked and was fun.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?
My first thoughts were that I wasn’t going to make it… it had been a minute or two since I had worked out and thought OH NO…. what have I committed to? Every trainer was supportive, friendly and encouraging. I have trained with personal trainers before but the difference was that the Get You In Shape trainers make you work the entire time and socialize before or after. I feel like I get a better workout here than in the past. One thing that sticks out to me is when I was curious about whether or not people kept signing up, even with the season changes, and Kristi said… Well… it can be addicting. I remember thinking. SURE, okay – people really come in the rain, freezing cold and extreme heat? And now I am doing just that and thankful for every chance I get to attend a session.

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
I have listened and watched the trainers tips and enjoyed the weekly emails, although I don’t always get to finish them in one sitting.  I also completed the 24 Day Challenge and have continued on the spark and meal replacement shakes. I keep up with the page on Facebook and also used the recipe section as I love to cook.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program ?
Community, accountability, variety of workouts/locations, functional training and lots of core work. I also like that I have tapped into the possibility of enjoying running. I actually just ran 3 miles consecutively in less than 30 min for the first time in my life, all attributed to the past 3 months.

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I am happier, more content with what I see in the mirror and feel more like “me” again and not just Todd’s wife, or Kaleigh or Dylan’s mom. I have a lot more energy, sleep better and I’m excited about what the future holds.

What is your proudest moment or moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
Weight loss as of Nov. 16: 16.4 lbs and 18.5 inches in 3 months  AND… my first timed mile since high school was 9:54 and the most recent was 8:02..

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
My husband has joined the Get You In Shape Program this past month because he can see the results and how excited I am about feeling better.  Both of my parents are currently starting the second phase of the 24 Day Challenge and my entire family is eating better because I am the one who cooks all of the meals and I am NOT cooking something I can’t eat.** I think most importantly though it has reignited my desire to be in better health NOW so that I am around for LATER. Playing with my kids, being active with them, traveling and being around for their kids.

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has  Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
Weight loss as of Nov. 16: 16.4 lbs and 18.5 inches. Best time for the mile: 8:02.

I feel stronger and more confident. I am thrilled with the weight loss and inches lost and I’m excited about toning up and seeing where I go from here! The trainers, workouts, attitudes of those around us are contagious.

Focus on the change and you will see results – never believed it as much as I do now.

Pam Michel – $500 and 3 Free Months of Get You In Shape
https://www.getyouinshape.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Coppell-Fitness-134.jpg

My name is Pam Michel & I’m a retired music teacher. I live in Flower Mound where my husband & I, married 28 years, raised our 2 daughters. They are now 23 & 20 years old, so we are, for the most part, empty nesters. I’ve been part of the Get You In Shape program for 16 months.

Where you were in life before Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?

Before I joined Get You In Shape, I had spent a couple of years helping take care of my husband’s parents. During that time, I gained quite a bit of weight. I’m 5’2” & I got up to 175 lbs. I was squeezing into a size 14. I was tired all the time & couldn’t seem to take weight back off by going to the gym. I also don’t mind telling people that I have had Parkinson’s Disease for 12 years now. The extra weight wasn’t helping my health issues. I was pretty much sick of feeling crummy & knew that I could do something about it beyond just taking drugs if I got serious about taking care of myself. I used to be a runner, so I don’t have an aversion to exercise. I just needed to find something that motivated me to get back into the fitness habit again.

Why you decided to join Get You In Shape?

I found a Groupon for a month at Get You In Shape, so decided to try it. It was summer, though & I had trouble with the heat. I ended up taking off a couple months & trying a different program that was indoors & I also went to the gym. By September, 2011, I knew the other programs weren’t working as well because of Get You In Shape‘s focus on overall fitness & nutrition along with a support system. So I went back & haven’t stopped since.

What was your first experience or first impression with Get You In Shape?

I loved that so many different types of people were in the program. There were all different ages, body types & fitness levels, but everyone was supportive of helping others meet their own individual goals. Also, the trainers all had a little bit different techniques, but were equally effective. I loved the variety!

What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?

I guess I’ve tried just about all of the suggestions Get You in Shape has offered. I try focusing on one change at a time. At first I just increased the amount of water & drank daily & gave up drinking cokes. During the holiday season last year, I focused on eating sensibly & attending boot camp consistently & got through the whole season without putting any weight back on. At the beginning of 2012, I decided to participate in a Get You in Shape contest. We formed teams & competed over several weeks to basically try & be the “biggest losers.” During that time, I began using a food journal. I chose to use My Fitness Pal because it was easy. It was that contest & my great team (The Fitastic Five) that enabled me to finally drop under 150 lbs & take off another 8 inches in a pretty short period of time. I also recently tried the 24 Day Challenge. I was focused more on inches than weight at that point. But I was able to take off another 3 lbs. & 3 inches.

What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
I think the focus on nutrition along with exercise is key to fitness. So I really like that about Get You In Shape. I also love the contests, opportunities to participate in different events, the constant variety & my Noon Class with personal trainer Chaney!!

How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
Well, I’ve had to buy a lot of new clothes! LOL But aside from that I’ve learned about how our genetically altered wheat is really bad for our bodies. I now choose to eat gluten-free as much as possible. This has also helped my husband eat better & take off some weight too. I pay much more attention to my portion sizes & eat more frequent, small meals. Many of my old snacks have been replaced with better options. In general, I eat very differently than I used to. It’s not a diet, but a permanent way of life.

What is your proudest moment or results from the Get You in Shape program?
This is kind of silly, but I have always had pudgy thighs & upper arms, even when I was young & really tiny. At the end of the summer when we took measurements, my upper arms finally began to drop after staying the same for months. I was jumping up & down happy! Some other boot campers thought I was nuts since they want their arms to be bigger! But I finally felt like I was being successful at turning fat into muscle.

How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
I recently discovered that I no longer need to take anti-inflammatory drugs every day. I use a prescription anti-inflammatory, so I like not having to pay for that on a regular basis!

Also, I’m a singer, & one of the more unexpected changes has been in breath control & ease of singing. I guess all the strengthening of abdominal muscles has really helped. Since Parkinson’s Disease weakens the voice, I’ve been totally thrilled with this added benefit!!

Last, but not least, I turned 50 years old back in August. I’m SO much healthier than I was when I turned 40! So crossing this milestone was a thrill for me! I love being 50, fit, & fabulous!

What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?

Well, the most obvious result is that I’m down about 35 lbs & over 30 inches from when I started. I’ve gone from a size 14 down to Size 6 & 8 – even in jeans. And I no longer have spillage over the top of my jeans! I probably haven’t had that luxury since before having babies! Oh, & most of my double chin has gone away! Woohoo! But overall, I just feel SO much better!! My metabolism seems to be higher, so keeping weight off seems to be easier. I get to “cheat” on my diet without feeling guilty as long as I go right back to eating healthy. I love that Get You In Shape keeps challenging me with new opportunities. In December, I’m running with a Get You In Shape relay team in the White Rock Marathon. My Parkinson’s muscles seem to poop out after an hour of running, so I don’t know that I’ll ever do more than the relay. But for now, this is a great challenge. I am totally indebted to Get You In Shape for how far I’ve come in the last year & a half! And I can’t wait to tackle new fitness challenges that come along!
