Q: Where were you at in your life before the Get You In Shape? What did your life look like?
I sat a lot at my job, working on a pc. I felt lethargic, heavy, my sciatic nerve was inflamed, my forearm and wrist would ache during the day and a night. I had an entire wardrobe I wanted to discard. I did not feel good about myself or the way I looked. I did not feel like my younger, fun, self.
Q: Why did you decide to join Get You In Shape?
Because something had to seriously change and I finally recognized that I had to be the one making the change. I chose GYIS because from the very beginning their focus was on my goals and my desire to achieve my goals. Plus, I liked the idea of a variety of group workouts held out of doors.
Q: What was your first experience with or first impression of Get You In Shape?
My very first impression was . . . UGH, I’m sooo out of shape and I’m not sure I can do this but, one squat thrust at a time, alongside others in my “newbie” group, I began to realize I WAS capable. As the first weeks passed, my body started to adjust; I was meeting like-minded friends and began to actually look forward to seeing what new early morning challenge awaited our group. The emphasis trainers placed on form and technique gave me confidence in my abilities.
Q: What are some of the tools from the Get You In Shape program you have used that has helped you?
The tools I have found most helpful have been:
• Identifying and setting my own goals.
• Utilizing My Fitness Pal to become more aware of daily water and calorie intake.
• Variety of workouts avoids boredom and ensures every muscle group is included
• Coaches are awesome! They are friendly, encouraging and follow-up to address any nutritional concerns and questions along the way.
Q: What do you like most about the Get You In Shape Program?
The program is one of true positive encouragement whether it’s from a coach or a workout buddy next to me or across the lot. Workouts are geared to achieve my personal best and when that happens, it is publicly recognized & celebrated by our fitness family. We have fun!!
Two other things I enjoy are opportunities to include family and friends in the monthly community 5K’s and GYIS’ focus on charitable giving events within our local community. Best way to feel good, physically and spiritually!!
Q: How has the Get You In Shape program helped change your life?
I have consistency in conditioning my body. I am physically aware of how my calorie and nutritional intake affect my energy levels, my sleep patterns are improved and I have achieved 50% of my weight loss goal. If I have a bad day, even a bad week, it’s so much easier to keep my goal in sight with the support of the GYIS family.
Q: What is your proudest moment or result from the Get You in Shape program?
GYIS has helped me to change my fatitude and improved my attitude. I’m encouraged each day to put myself first. I want to be a happy, healthy Mom so I can set a terrific example for my young daughter.
By sticking with my daily workouts I am showing her that exercise and good physical health is not a concept to be talked about but the way to live a happy, active life.
Q: How has the Get You In Shape Program impacted other areas of your life?
Wrist and elbow pain is gone. Sciatic nerve flare-ups are improved. I smile more, I have more days with pep in my step. My love life is better because I feel better about myself. I am physically stronger and have lost weight. I recognize that this is a life long journey and a large part of the road I travel is taking time to put “ME” first so I am able to also do good for others.
Q: What are the results that you have achieved from the Get You In Shape program and how has Get You In Shape played a role in your results?
In the last six months, by consistently working out, being conscious about my eating, by utilizing My Fitness Pal, I have lost 19.2 pounds, 20.25 inches, PLUS . . . I can run a mile in 11:40 (shaving a 1:10 off my time since I began in March–& I hate to run)!! I can now do 38 real push-ups!
